it seemed like such a profound thing to say; aether tilted his head, though his expression was melancholy, to look at zhongli. the silence between them stretched like a great chasm, before golden eyes finally moved away. and that was when he spoke.

(was it fear that held his tongue? he didn’t know what state she was in, and he felt empty without knowing that she was even okay--) the two of them, searching for home (theirs, or a place to call home, he was never clear with anyone which it was), traveled far and wide.
they helped as many as they could- but you can’t save everyone, someone had once told him. (he knew. he remembered. it still hurt.) subconsciously, his right hand touched his left shoulder- gently, as though something were wrong with it, but the aether’s hand fell back to his side.
