The Grey

Soooo I went to see "The Grey" - and it got me thinking as these things do. Basically it is set in the Alaskan wilderness, where a plane goes down, and these survivors have to battle the elements and in particular these grey timberwolves. It got me thinking that this is such a parallel to life, where we are in this world battling trying to make it through and battling the elements and in particular the enemy is who is trying to take us out, as these wolves were trying to take out these survivors.

So when they leave the dead by the plane one of the guys feels it is appropriate to pray, and to pray for continued protection, and most of the others scoffed including Liam Neeson, the main character. Most of the world will scoff at your faith and belief, don't let it stop you. They then have a conversation about God later on, as one might when you realize how small you are! In the vastness of this world and then don't let me get talking about how small we are in the vastness of the galaxies and planets!!! 

During the conversation they basically deny God, call Him a fairytale, and come to the conclusion it is all about me and I will do it my way!!! All through the movie the wolves randomly attack, just like the enemy will in your life, just out of nowhere, yet always there lurking to see when he can get in, don't give him access! Later on when he(Liam), comes to the end of himself what does he do, he prays and cries out to God! 

People I want to say this God is real and one way or another you will realize it, you who believe should value this relationship above all else, for He has poured out His blessing on you , that will guide, provide, heal, restore, bring complete Shalom- nothing mission, nothing broken - into your life. For those of you who do not, well I would really recommend that you explore the Bible the Word of God, speak to a believer (someone who really believes doesn't just go to church to go to church, or is a nominal christian, and hear and see how good God is!). 

We have a real enemy who is trying to take us out, to kill us, to stop the dream that you were created to live out, to stunt and end the destiny and purpose that you were to fulfill. However with God you will succeed!!!

Rather than calling out to God, when you are in the poop - real hard, impossible situation, - rather have a relationship with Him from now then try and call out to Him as a stranger! He is so GOOD He will respond always, unlike in the movie where it seems He does not!!! In real life He does, and we live in real life! I won't spoil the ending for you, just know this - God is with you, God is for you, & God is in you, and He will turn your Grey into victory, He will bring peace and you do not have to worry about a thing. No attack of the enemy will take you out!!! With God you are significant on this planet and in these galaxies, you were born with a purpose and a destiny and ain't no wolf or devil gonna take you out!!!

Doing The Right Thing

Too often in life we do not see - or we underestimate the value of - doing the right thing.

Last night I was challenged about this very thing. Why as a believer should I do the right thing all the time, even when it doesn't feel like it is making a difference in my life? In fact, even if I feel like I am missing out or loosing out by doing the right thing? 

And this sometimes seems true, that we choose to do the right thing, and a lot of times it feels like it is a waste of time. The truth is, it is not a waste of time!!! Doing the right thing is not only doing the right thing, but it is also building up a habit of doing so. So when we get into the habit and lifestyle of always choosing to do the right thing, no matter how hard or senseless it may seem, no matter how it might seem detrimental to our current situation, the truth is by doing this we are preparing ourselves for the big one - because everyone of us from time to time are faced with a big one!

The Big one being a situation that is sooooo tempting to choose to do wrong - and wherein doing so would feel so good or be so beneficial to us - and yet, where it would be wrong or even illegal to do what we want to do. At this point if you do not have a history of doing right or choosing to do right, you probably will choose to do wrong - and suffer the crazy effects of doing so. We know that it is wrong to lie, cheat, steal, to have intercourse outside of marriage, to take drugs that cause us not to be in our right mind, to imbibe alcohol to a point of not being in control and out of our minds - and yet, when we do get to that place of making that choice to choose to do the wrong thing, I know in my life it didn't happen overnight. Where one minute I was fully choosing to do the right thing and then suddenly I chose to do the wrong thing. NO - it came from  sustained period of  "cooling down," so to speak, where I was not in church as much, not in my Word, not in prayer, not hanging around great influences (yes you do get influenced - face the facts!), and then there I was making terrible choices and not feeling wrong about them.

Until I had to face and reap the consequences - there may be no punishment in the New Testament, but there certainly are consequences. There may be no immediate bad thing happen to you (if it did it would almost make us feel better), but there consequences. I remember a day waking up and feeling so far away from God, it was the loneliest moment of my life! I had so much other stuff, that may have seemed good, in my life, yet without God it was nothing! Even knowing God loves me so much that no matter what I do He is always there, the journey back was long - it took time (way too much time) to get back to where I was supposed to be. Since then have there been times when I have veered off the road - sure there have - but thank God I made a decision that day that when I recognized it, I was not going to prolong it, but shut it down - the thought, the action, the relationship, whatever I needed to do - so that I would not find myself in that place of being so far from God that I have nothing.

The good news is God is good. He loves us, and He has given us a hope and a future. And because He has chosen us, when we choose Him, it is immediate and with great effect to change whatever situation we are in. So choose to do the right thing: it will bring peace into your life, it will create opportunities for good in you and others, it connect you with God's plan for your life, which is so much better then anything you could ever come up with!

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

So I went to see "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" (TTSS), this weekend. It is about relationships and trust. Set in the British secret service, there is a team that has been working together for years, and one of them is double agent, and the movie is about that.

On the face of it, they had given their all for country and each other, worked together in the trenches of life, and had unique skills that complimented each other. Yet one of them had chosen to betray the others.

It got me thinking: how well do you know the people around you, your life team? Those you are committing your time, dreams and battle with, those you are choosing to let in and go through life with you. Not to be dramatic, that they will betray you or anything, but more that they are aligned with you, that they share the same beliefs, same outlook on life, that they can be trusted to be there, and not just to fulfill their own agenda. I remember Jesse Duplantis preaching a message a few years go called "Who is in your boat?" and he went on to say that one of the reasons we are not achieving what we expect to be achieving is because there is someone on your journey with you - in your boat - that is not meant to be there. 

Know that your associations determine your destiny, and those around you will affect and influence you, so make sure of who is on your life team. As a believer you have the advantage of being able to ask God to lead and direct you, Holy Spirit to make you aware of who it should be and who shouldn't be. You have one life - you owe it to yourself to make it count, and to make it the best it can be!

In the movie there are some you think they just have to be the person and there are others you think no way. Watch it, it was intense and good. But like they never know in the movie, don't leave it to chance in your life either!

A New Year

Another Year is upon us.

As I took the time to consider this year all that kept on ringing in me is "make it count!!!"

Make this year count, don't let it be another year, do what you can, stop.... take the time to get vision for this year, to really consider what you want it to look like. To consider what you want to accomplish, who you want to be, what difference you want to make. Get whatever you need to make this year count. Don't let it be like any other year - let 2012 be the year that counted, the year that you began something, finished something, the year that changed the course of history in your life.

Don't let it just be another year.....

Invite God in and see what He has for you, I can assure you it is better than anything you ever imagined for yourself. Trust, love, live! Live well.
