Day 7 of the #365classicmoviechallenge 😊: tonight’s movie is the 1938 classic “Jezebel” starring the legend herself Bette Davis along with Henry Fonda (in one of his first big starring roles) and George Brent 😊 This film was the film that really started her most successful years as an actress in Hollywood before this she already had big roles like her breakout role in 1934’s “Of Human Bondage”, 1935’s “Dangerous” (for which she won her first Oscar for Best Actress) & 1937’s “Marked Woman” her first film after having a legal dispute with her own studio Warner Bros. Fighting for better roles a case in which she lost but in the end Warner’s eventually gave in and offered her more better challenging roles as an actress and this was one of many a film about a strong southern belle whose actions costs the man she loves. The film was a hit at the box office and was nominated for 5 Oscars winning only 2 of them: Best Supporting Actress For Fay Bainter & Bette’s 2nd Oscar for Best Actress 😊 and it would solidify her success as an actress with other hit films later on such as Dark Victory, The Private Lives Of Elizabeth & Essex, The Letter, Now Voyager, Old Acquaintance & so many others. 😊 #classicmovienight #classicmovies #bettedavis #henryfonda #georgebrent #faybainter #jezebel #oldhollywood #classichollywood
