2010: The Year of New

2010 was indeed an amazing year, and if truth be told much better than I could have imagined. Frankly, what a good year when I'm looking back, even though it was just a little more than six days ago. If I had to pick a word to describe the past year it would be the word "growth". I've been thinking about some of the memorable events for a while now and here are some of them that I could bring back to my mind. 

At the beginning of the year and if my memory is not failing me(like it usually does recently) in February I got my first laptop, a "MacBook Pro" to be more accurate. Prior to that I always thought of laptops as ugly, unreliable compact, miniature computers; however as I needed a replacement for my old PC and it had to be something portable so I could carry it with me, I had no choice but to get a laptop. It's been almost a year and I absolutely love it, there is no day that I can imagine living without it.

In June for five days I was lucky enough to be a part of something really big and extraordinary, the ICTVC. 4th International Conference on Typography and Visual Communication for the first time was taking place in Cyprus and it was hosted by my university and I being a design student got the chance to help with the conference workshops and events. I was also fortunate to meet some of today's leading people and thinkers in design industry who attended and gave talks during the conference, amongst them Neville Brody and Petr van Blokland. I also took part in a two day typeface design workshop with Gerry Leonidas, which was a great experience. 

Then in July my great friend and inspiration, who is currently studying graphic design in Italy visited me and some friends in Cyprus. We had some crazy and fantastic time together. (I think I'm a summer person.)

In September after some thought I decided to start blogging and that's how you are reading this post. I began blogging mostly because I have friends and relatives spread all over the world and not being a big fun of Facebook, it has allowed me to share my day-to-day happenings and keep connected with them, I hope.

I started university classes from the end of September if I'm not mistaken; until now projects are keeping me super busy and I've been enjoying every moment of it, from brainstorming, reading to designing and presenting. I really enjoyed the history class during the Fall 2010 semester.

Growth also came into my personal life. I'm very attentive when it comes to my privacy, so I'll keep that part to myself. Found a new obsession as well and wish it would have happened to me much earlier: books. I discovered pleasure in reading, since then I've been reading, mostly about graphic design, typography and discipline. Overall last year was very auspicious; I learned new things and I've become more wiser and stronger in my mind. Ohhh...nearly forgot, I got over my OCD, thank you 2010!
