Flying objects rush past you as you fall deeper into the Earth. Floating bones, tables, mirrors. You catch a glimpse of yourself. It’s still just you, in your blue dress, purple sleeves, white apron, and brown hair with a blonde streak. The rushing air catches your dress and you start floating down as if it were a parachute. The graceful descent calms your mind and fills you with determination. Your feet touch the ground. Looking up, you see a speck of light from the surface world. Your heart aches to go home.
Looking around, you find yourself in the dim spotlight of a dark room. The floor beneath you is made of tile, with grass sprouting between the cracks. You stumble around the room until you find a door. You try to turn the knob, only to hear a shout.
“Wahaha! What’re you doing to my nose?”
You’ve adjusted to the darkness and you find that the door knob has eyes and a mouth. You ask if he would let you open the door.
“Well, I’m locked, and you can only get through if you have the key.”
You ask where you can get a key.
“Are you not from around here? You can buy a key from the locksmith. His shop’s inside.”
You glare at the door knob, but think better of it. In an attempt to make polite conversation, you tell him your name.
“Alisk, huh? My name’s Gersnob. I know, strange name, but ol’ King Fluffybuns can’t name for beans! Don’t…don’t tell him I said that. He’d probably behead me.”
You ask if he’d seen a rabbit skeleton come through here.
“You mean the White Rabbit? Of course I have! You just missed him. He went through that door over there.” He gestured his knob across the room. “Don’t worry, it’s not locked.”
Relieved and slightly annoyed, you walk across the room and open the door, which isn’t alive. The hall it leads to is lit by glowing blue flowers. They all seem to be repeating “I’m late” in the White Rabbit’s voice. A dim light shines at the end of the hall, and you go towards it.
You walk out of the tunnel to find yourself in a strange meadow. The sky is a gigantic cavern, with the roof of the cave sloping far above you and stretching beyond your sight. Glowing white stones cover the ceiling, mimicking the night sky. Beautiful flowerbeds surround you, and a forest stands at the end of them. Almost all of the flowers are the glowing blue ones from the tunnel, which morph the lighting of the cavern. The flowers are silent. There is no breeze.
You look down to find a cake at your feet. Your mouth waters, for it looks rather tasty. You pick it up to find the words EAT ME written in icing. Your suspicion is overwhelmed by your childish longing for sugar, and you eat it quickly. You feel a strange tingling throughout your body, and you begin to wonder what was in that cake. The ground comes closer to you, and the flowers and grass grow until they’re towering above you. You realize that they’re not growing, you’re shrinking. You’re as small as a hummingbird.
You call out for help, and all the blue flowers echo you. But nobody came. Despite everything, you stay determined to go home. You begin to walk towards where you think the forest is, even though you can’t see it. The ground is lit by the blue light of the flowers, and you laugh at how your skin appears slightly green. All the flowers laugh back at you, scaring you. Feeling freaked out, you cover your ears and start running. You come to a halt in front of a yellow flower. At least, you think it’s yellow, although it’s hard to tell in the blue light. It has a smiley face on its white androecium, which brings you comfort. You used to doodle smiley faces all over your homework, and it reminds you that you need to be heading home. You take a step when, to your surprise, the smiling flower blinks.
“Howdy! I’m Flowey. Flowey the Flower!” You wince a little at his cheerful screechy voice. “Hmmm… You’re new to Underland, aren’tcha? Golly, you must be so confused. You ate the shrinking cake, so you obviously don’t know what you’re doing. Someone ought to teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do. Well, I probably don’t seem that little right now. Haha!” He looms over you, his beady black eyes staring at you. His smile grows bigger as the blue flowers around him echo his words. “Ready?
“Down here, we give each other love to make ourselves stronger. You want some love, don’t you? Love can be shared through little white ‘friendliness pellets.’” He looks a bit shifty eyed as he shakes his head. A few white seeds fall out of his androecium. You reach out to catch one, but you scream and jump back when it hits your hand. The seed burned you. You look up out of anger and fear as Flowey’s face contorts into a murderous grin. The blue flowers are echoing your screams.
