A few months ago I posted about being diagnosed with prostate cancer, and what I thought, at the time, was my future course of action. That has since changed. I saw three different urologists, two of them oncologists of different specialties; one surgery, one radiology. After consultation with both, and doing some homework, I decided upon using high-energy photon radiation - x-rays - to treat the prostate and surrounding areas, including lymph glands. The reasoning being, it was possible that harder-to-detect cancer cells might have made their way into the glands. Doc called this approach "a knockout punch". I agreed.
My last treatment was 06/25, after 6 weeks of 5 days a week, after work. Let me tell ya, I was pretty weary at that 6th week, but I got through. I have been slowly recovering/healing since. (The radiation damages healthy cells while disrupting the cancer cells.)
I will be getting PSA checks every 6 months for a bit, and testosterone reducing meds for a couple of years, to keep the cancer at bay. Time will tell, of course. As I have said before, and must say it again: get checked. Save yourself and your family some grief; it might get tough, but, at least to me, life and family make it worth the doing.
