Judy Garland performs the iconic Get Happy number in the MGM/Charles Walters musical Summer Stock, 1950. This was the last scene shot for the movie and the final scene Judy ever filmed at MGM. Shortly after Summer Stock was completed, and despite Judy being the studio's biggest box office money maker, studio head Louis B. Mayer granted Garland’s request to terminate her contract after fifteen years at MGM, sympathetic to her weariness of making film after film and the toll it had taken on both her physical and emotional well-being. This freed Judy from being under studio control and allowed her to pursue other opportunities, taking her career to even greater heights in the years that followed.
