I Don't Smoke
Tomáš–he still didn't want to fully accept his new nickname–sat and stared at the fire.
He was away, hidden in the shadows, watching those on watch. Tomáš wanted to see if, even if he was not in front of the fire, if those large, impossibly round eyes, would still find him.
And he had his confirmation–they had.
Tomáš remained in the shadows, knowing his position wouldn't be given away by the gaze of what sat at the heart of t he fire. He was the only one who could see them. Harumi told him only the pure of heart could see those demons, the Enenras, at the center of the fires.
Bi-Han had told him to not tempt it; to not be near fires and even Kuai Liang and Harumi would escort Tomáš away from a fire if it had gotten too big.
But something in him made him want to rebel just this once.
He stared into the eyes. They seemed to dig deep into his soul and the more he stared, the more that was all there seemed to be of them. Whatever it was that they were attached to–yes an Enenra but what did that actually mean?--began to be all he could see. It was not evil; it wanted nothing ill or cruel with him.
It meant him no harm.
Yet Tomáš felt that if he gave into its call, he would no longer be his own. He would be surrendering himself to something greater. Something that he could still use for good. If he was careful…
