A princess and their… uh, dragon
thought process Hornet’s abdomen would be stick thin because she’s not eating worth shit -> she’s never gonna be ready for a molt in that state -> wait when did hornet last molt. When is she due for a molt -> Wait it’s occurred to me. What if she’s so small not because of Pale King’s short genes but instead because she hasn’t molted in years due to not eating properly -> if Hornet starts eating more do you think she’ll molt again and get bigger -> BIG HORNET?
sometimes i think aftg fans forget that the point of the foxes is that theyre all assholes with bad backgrounds and bad coping mechanisms. like them being nice to each other isnt a given especially with the way theyre split pretty evenly into their little groups. its especially obvious when people complain about how kevin is treated over others. hes not going to get special treatment because hes traumatized because they ALL have trauma and none of them know healthy ways to cope with it. and hes an asshole to them as well!! everyone points to andrew choking him and calling it unfair and then they completely ignore that andrew also choked allison. they complain about neil pressuring him to tell everyone wymack is his father as if neil hasnt already been established as a manipulative asshole. as if kevin has never manipulated neil to do something he doesnt want to do either (kathy ferdinand show???). it doesnt matter whats fair to kevin, it matters that these are all consistent traits to those around him. theyre not going to be fair to kevin and kevin is not going to be fair to them. the entire point of the team is that they clash and the narrative reason is because neil brings them all together. neil. not kevin. i see no problem with loving kevin and wanting him to be treated well but come on be realistic hes not going to get special treatment
Major Silksong spoilers under the cut (Boss character spoilers and Lace lore):
(I would say mid-to-late game content spoilers)
Been thinking on why the Operator is so much more aggressive in Rosswood compared to Marble Hornets and just wanted to share my thoughts.
In Marble Hornets, the Operator has always had at least one victim: Tim. And while Tim was able to resist the Operator for the most part, we know that he was still capable of spreading the Operator's influence. Whether he only ever spread it to the Marble Hornets cast, or if it had happened previously as well, the Operator still had someone to feed on.
Meanwhile in Rosswood, Someone who is never named, but in all likelihood is Tim is stated to have disappeared as a child, and is presumably long dead by the time the events of the miniseries happen. With no ongoing victims to spread the influence or to be fed on themselves, the Operator has likely been starving for a long, long time. With the hospital abandoned for so long, nobody new would cross it's path save for the odd urban explorer, so when Alex and Jay turn up, it's potentially the first proper meal it's gotten in years.
If you're well fed, you might save part of a meal for later, stick it in the fridge for the next day, maybe combine the leftovers with something fresh if you get the chance. But if you haven't eaten in days? You would be scraping your plate clean. Victims of the Operator in Marble Hornets are like those leftovers, put aside for later and combined with new victims when they make the mistake of getting someone else involved, left alone for the most part until the Operator feels like having a snack. Fed on just a bit, before the fridge is closed and you are safe until it's next visit, but never truly free.
Victims in Rosswood are the scraped plate, eaten down to the bone all in one sitting, every scrap consumed until there's nothing left, right down the marrow. There's no reprieve, no escape, just a hungry predator hunting you down and taking everything you are and everything you ever will be.
I think it's also important to remember that Rosswood also takes place a long time after Marble Hornets would have. The Operator has gone a lot longer without a good meal than it ever had to in the main timeline. Even if we say that Tim not being there wouldn't have made a difference, the Marble Hornets Operator was feeding on Alex since at least 2006, and then Jay since 2009. This version didn't have that. So when a two course meal wandered into Rosswood and got ready to stay the night? The Operator had no intention of doing things the slow way. Alex and Jay never stood a chance.
expanding on this from my previous post but au where everything is the same except phantom cant speak words - they can hum and scream and laugh and sob and make other noises but they cant form words
but what if its not something that happened over their deterioration, instead its just how they were spun. of course, the idea of it happening because they are fraying or because their mother damaged their vocal cords equivalent/took their ability to speak is fun, but what if they were just never able to speak to begin with?
so instead they learn how to communicate via the ways they can vocalize, like humming or laughing or screaming. and sometimes those things have very weird associations with situations - like instead of humming or whatever when agreeing with someone, they laugh. or laughing when they feel happy even if there is no joke or anything to laugh about - because they saw happy people laugh during their formative time and thus associate laughing specifically with being happy. or maybe they hum when they are scared instead of crying or screaming because they tried comforting themself that way and it stuck
and lace understands them perfectly. she knows exactly what theyre trying to tell her or others when they make noises that do not make any sense in that context. maybe they make some very specific vocalization if they want to say a very specific word or sentence, kind of like their own vocabulary since they cannot actually talk
so for example theyre in hornets bellhome in the spa and phantom like. makes a weird hoarse noise that sounds NOTHING like a happy noise and lace goes like "oh my god i know right? this is awesome". and hornet is sitting on her bed just confused
