Cycling training begins for our next travels in Tuscany in 10 weeks. Was very lucky to get some child free hours after work and whilst the weather is glorious (if a little chilly) we got 40km under our belts. #cyclingtuscany #cycletraining #rideoutside #getcycling #getasorebum #cycledate #datenightworkout #bikeride #bikepacking https://www.instagram.com/p/BwDRBEAA3Qc/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jg00ley6joln

York Road Safety
So I'm going to start blogging pretty frequently on road safety in and around York. This was one of the projects I mentioned in my Youtube vlog, and hopefully there's more to come.
As of today there's very little I've done in the way of cycle campaigning, but tomorrow is a different matter. I've got a few emails to send out to the council. One such email I have already sent to the Walking and Cycling contact at the council, to have received no reply (no, not even an acknowledgement of receipt).
I'm going to write yet another email complaining about the junction joining Bootham Bar, Exhibition Square, Gillygate and High Petergate, And the amount of red light jumping that goes on around there, because there have been plenty of near misses around the area. I propose altering the traffic lights to have less of a delay between light changes, or (better yet) to install a camera to catch offenders in the area. There is already a camera on the junction above Brill Sandwich shop, but this is hardly ever facing the junction itself.
I'll also be getting in contact with GetCycling (who supply the Unibikes service), and the University as regards to altering some of the road layout in the area and promoting safer cycling. More than once I've been involved in a near-miss involving the chicanes down Main Street (1 and 2) and Heslington Lane. I've also seen cyclists my age going up the wrong side of the road, riding on the pavement and generally being unsafe on the road. With the FTRs disappearing, there'll also be plenty of space to widen the pavement and bus stop at Heslington Hall, which can only benefit pedestrians. Field Lane is also in an incredible state of disrepair, so I recommend resurfacing it, as a safety measure for all road users.
I'll be posting all of these as open letters on this blog, so feel free to copypaste what I put, and re-email if you agree with my ideas (if not, cut out what you don't like and just email that which you do).
