Why and how Sherlock is actively trying to get Molly and Lestrade together
Heads up: I’ve hardly written any meta ever and I was totally looking forward to someone more experienced wrapping this up for me so I could reblog with #PREACH in the tags, but nobody seems interested in it. So here goes: EDIT: just saw @asherlockstudy actually did post something similar earlier today (#PREACH) - go read it here.
We’ll look at the dialogue first: (S = Sherlock, L = Lestrade)
S: Trust me, though, she’s not right for you.
L: What?
S: She’s not the one!
Now notice how he doesn’t say “she’s not the one for you”. She’s just not the one. Well, guess who’s canonally (is this the adverb, well, whatever) the one:
(couldn’t find a gif, but I guess you all know the quote: “ Because the one person he thought didn't matter at all to me was the one person who mattered most.”)
Going on:
L: Well, thank you, Mystic Meg.
Yeah now, Mystic Meg is apparently a British astrologist, but hold on, there’s more. I don’t know a lot about British astrologists, but I guess there are more than just one- so why Mystic Meg? Meg derives from Margaret, and a possible nickname for Margaret -surprise- is Molly. Now this might seem a bit far fetched, but trust Moffat and Gatiss to encode stuff like this.
However this isn’t proof enough, is it? One thing is going back to S3.
Exhibit A:
He means that and he’s already got someone in mind, knowing that Tom is not the one for her.
Which leads to exhibit B: Sherlock made the seating arrangements for the wedding. Guess who sat next to each other ?
Now, again, this is cinematography, BUT remember who’s behind this show: Molly and Lestrade are always shown together (except for when Meatdagger did his ‘input’) and we’re mostly watching them from Sherlock’s perspective. In Sherlock’s eyes they’re already inseperable.
At this point I have to go to school (to... uh.. write some essays that I’m actually getting credit for, unlike this :D), but feel free to comment, add, argue in a friendly manner. I guess what we all can agree on, is that we want those two munchkins happy with whomever. :)
