I'm not a morning person but love shooting sunrises, I find them more difficult than sunsets because you're starting in the dark which makes things more challenging, especially if you don't know the location well.

On this morning I missed sunrise, I needed to leave camp by about 4:45 to get to where I wanted to shoot in time, but I forgot to set my alarm. When I woke to see a beautiful morning glow bathing my tent, my heart sunk, I missed the on opportunity on this trip to capture a sunrise.

Dawn, Smithville Lake, Missouri

One of my favorite places to visit is Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), this image is not taken there, rather it's taken in Smithville, Missouri. You're probably wondering what that has to do with RMNP. 

Well, it reminds me how connected far off places can be. In this case the connection is the water which fills this reservoir, some of it began it's journey in RMNP some 700 miles away. It's journey ends when it flows into the Gulf of Mexico at the Mississippi River Delta, almost 800 miles away. So many habitats relied upon by people and animals are affected by this water.
