“If you cut off my reproductive choice…I’ll cut off yours” Kind of a bold way to start off right?   A hot issue in today’s world is abortion and wether women should be able to do so. According to the Orlando Medical Center for women’s Health 1/3 of pregnancies are unplanned, 22% of pregnancies end in abortion. People who fight for Pro Life which is anti-abortion are very radical in my eyes; you may have seen them with disturbing bloody fetus pictures on campus or at other locations. They believe abortion is murder to the young UNDEVELOPED fetus that it is against God plan to do so. Personally I think the only people who should have a choice in the decision are the mother and father of the unborn child.  For example what if you knew if you gave birth you would die and the baby might not have a chance to make it either, it doesn’t seem like a very good idea to remain pregnant does it. Or if you got raped and found out you were pregnant, you WOULD NOT want to keep that child you would hate that baby. Simply if you can’t take care of it, these are three of the many reasons why women get abortions. I have a close friend who was in a very abusive relationship that ended in a restraining order 2 weeks after she found out she was pregnant, if you were in her shoes would you keep it? The main point I’m trying to get across is that women should be able to and have access to abortions and more importantly pregnancy prevention i.e.; condoms, birth control and other contraceptives. Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization who does just this but there have been talks about cutting funding. It is important to keep these resources available to women and girls.

The beginning of this is strange but I am the type of person who thrives off of inspiration. I think this is a great video because it shows athletes of all types. I enjoy watching old clips of sports. I can feel the heart and dedication these athletes had and when I watch games today I get the sense that it is all for show. People like Micheal Jordan were exceptional athletes; the type of athlete that still, to this day, people look up to. No one has come close to having the dedication, heart, and love for the game.

I chose this video because it shows different types of sports and all the hall of fame athletes from  time to time. I thought the speech was touching that some of the athletes were actually speaking. The speech was very motivating and positive. It was all on topic and put together in a way where the words matched what the athletes was feeling in the video. I felt this was a very moving video for athletes out there and non-athletes who just need a little inspiration.

The video starts out with the image of a brutal hit put on NFL Wide Receiver Desean Jackson, it shows both him and the defensive player that hit him laying in agonizing pain. The video continues to show the shocking footage of brutal hits that have occurred in football and other sports like hockey. The video continues to flash words in the middle of these clips to show you the effects these concussions not only have on player but on family members and friends of these athletes. This video really hit me because as an athlete I know how hard it is to sit out a game because of injury. People say " well just sit out of the game, its whats good for you", but it's not that easy as an athlete. As a player you have a ton of pride in what you do on the field and when you sit out a game you feel like it makes you look weak in the eyes of not only you teammates but also everyone who watched you sit out that game. So you take the risk and most of the time you play it off like everything is fine so you can stay on the field. Like the young man in the clip tells us, it's not OK, most of the time when you stay out there, the injury worsens and all of the sudden you are dealing with something even more serious than before. Now i'm not saying it is all on these professional sports organizations to make the game safer, cause some of it is held on the athletes shoulders. These sports organizations do need to make strides in keeping players safer from concussions because right now the current regulations are not cutting. Now I won't go into depth about what they need to change because i will leave that for a later time but what I will is that if they want the players to be safe after their careers are over, they need to make drastic changes.

In this video, we see a man who has let love and his true self go due to family/society means. We travel through his life, as he see's how became the person he is at the present. In the end of the video, we see how the norms of society are changing due to the gay couple walking with their daughter. Once what was seen as taboo, is now becoming socially acceptable. We, (well at least I,) sympathize with the older man on how he had to live his entire life in "the closet." That was probably not easy for him to do.

Alex Jones is a radio host, author, and documentary film maker.He shows the evidence to inform the viewer that just CNN itself has staged fake events to fool the listeners. The government is working with CNN behind scenes. This is just more then CNN staging fake news, but it’s to inform you and make you aware of the truth because the truth isn’t being told by the news networks on television. I can’t tell you the truth I can only show you as much as I see for myself. Be careful what you’re being told and also be careful with what you consider the truth. I don’t mean to put fear into anyone, but just keep them open minded. The truth is you have rights and that’s written text under the Constitution of The United States of America. Be united and not divided.

I thought this was a very interesting and informative video which shows the effects of gun control. This is a video from Australia which is talking about the effects of government gun control, shortly after the guns are taken away from the citizens. This shows video of guns being cut down and destroyed. It also shows videos of police cars with sirens on to hint that crime will increase because of gun control. In the video, you also hear of people's different stories and personal experiences. Some people were hesitant to turn in their guns for multiple reasons, such as being collectors, or just the fact that they wanted to be able to defend themselves. It also appeals emotionally because it has images of dead bodies, along with images of a man who was tied up in his own house while his home was being invaded. Some of the other images it showed were statistics. These statistics showed that armed robberies increased 69% , assaults with guns increased 28%, gun murders increased 19%, and home invasions increased 21%. I believe that these statistics help prove that gun control is a mistake. Bad people are still going to find ways to get illegal guns, parts, etc. so i do not see the point in taking them away from responsible citizens when it comes down to an issue of self defense and home security. After watching and listening to the interviews, it appears that most of the citizens were against gun control. They talk about wanting to be able to defend themselves if they would ever need to. They also talked about how they would not be able to defend themselves with legal guns. The guns that were still legal have to be locked up and unloaded. Doesn't this seem pretty pointless? If someone came into your house, possibly armed, you would want something quick and ready that you could grab rather than something that would take too long to get ready before you could even use it. Overall, I believe that this video is a foreshadow to what is starting to happen now. At the end of the video, they talk about this happening in America, and the Australian citizens strongly urged that we should fight gun control because it is a mistake.

When was the last time you gave a sincere compliment to someone for no other reason than to be kind? When was the last time you received a sincere compliment? A simple compliment, act of kindness, or positive recognition can be enough for someone to turn their entire day around. Unfortunately, we often become so wrapped up in materialistic things and our own problems that we forget to appreciate the relationships we have been blessed to have. The power of kindness is extraordinary and can do so much for those receiving the act as well as the one's giving it. I believe it is important to pause, and take a second out of your day to think about those around you and what you can do to make someone's day just a little brighter.

This video begins with a sign that has two arrows pointing in different directions. One a says 'give' and the other says 'get'. In between the two arrows, the words 'a compliment' are written. This signifies an exchange of compliments between two people. Then, a variety of different people with different types of relationships start to give and receive compliments in what looks to be a phone booth (where the compliment is given) and a giant set of headphones (where the compliment is received). As the compliments between these people are being exchanged, there is background music of what sounds to be a guitar and a soft singing which sets the mood of calmness and curiosity. In the front view, the exchanging of compliments is the main focus but if you take note of the background, there is a city that is continuing to go on with its daily routine. The people exchanging the compliments seem to be very touched and grateful of the kind words being said to them. To me, the contrast between the calmness of these people and the chaos of the city is saying that it is a really fulfilling experience to just take a break out of your daily routine and make an effort to give at least one quick act of kindness. When we receive acts of kindness from others, we cherish them. Give someone else something worth cherishing. As Ghandi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

The Heroes of Sandy Hook

So again, I mention gun control in this post mainly because we're choosing a potential topic we can use later throughout semester. I know that this video is along the same lines as my last post, but I just thought this video (linked below) was an interesting "text" because it makes good points without being too biased. In this text, pictures and words (commentary) are used to express opinions and talk about the news. There is music used at the beginning for the theme song, however this text doesn't use music to get the message across or set the tone for the story. We can see that DeFranco uses his own feelings and words to show how he feels about the issue. It also uses pictures of either himself talking, or pictures of the tragedy that I think help bring out the emotions in viewers watching. I think this video or "text" does a good job because it doesn't pit America against itself on this issue, it just talks about the tragedy.
