I found my first ever Hepialid the other week! This is Sthenopis argenteomaculatus or the Silver Spotted Ghost Moth. Moths in the family Hepialidae are colloquially called the Ghost Moths. These moths have larvae that develop inside the stems or roots of plants and trees. A very cool family of moths. 귀신나방 (Ghost Moth)

아무런 사전 정보 없이 책을 골라 읽는건 그것 나름의 재미가 있다. 예상치 못한 장르나 이야기를 읽으며 새로운 것을 접할 수 있으며 실망할 수도 있고 오히려 뜻밖의 스토리를 맞이할 수 있다.

이 책은 바우만이 누구 추적하며 생긴 사건들 그리고 그 모든것을 사형되기 전 크리스틴이라는 기자한테 폭로하는 발상으로 시작한다. 이 "누구"가 세계 최고의 악마겸 살인자라고 하면 바로 떠오르는 사람 중 하나인 히틀러이며 그의 뇌 이식 실험과 그 성과로 인하여 히틀러와 추종자들이 현재까지 살아있다는 발칙한 상상으로 이어져 나가는 스토리다. 추가로 이러한 악마가 자본의 위험과 폭력성을 기발하게 사용하여 미국을 흔드는데 책의 처음부터 끝까지 매우 매끄럽고 스릴있게 이어진다.

개인적으로 특별하게 놀라거나 새로운 느낌은 없었다. 학교에서 2차 세계대전에 대하여 공부하며 이러한 상상이나 아이디어는 이미 들어봤기에. 이것도 물론 매우 개인적이지만 히틀러를 이렇게 감정이 있는 카리스마 있는 사람으로 표현한것이 조금 거슬렸으며 그다지 마음에 들지 않았다. 이 책을 읽으며 과연 히틀러가 충분히 나쁜 사람으로 표현되었나 의문점이었다. 재밌긴 하였지만 재미를 위하여 이런 인물을 굳이 써야 하였나. 독일이나 유럽에서는 출판되지 않았을 책이지 않았을까.
