Honestly I can't really understand why so many people used to hate Ron but I guess the thing about some fandom especially the book ones is that so many crucial things get overlooked while you're reading a long book.
Like Hermione fans go around calling Ron abusive while all he did was getting jealous and angry a couple of times while Hermione went around setting people's clothes on fire for distraction, turning people into bugs and trapping them, scarring people's face permanently for DA and cutting people's flesh with birds. Like I don't think Hermione is abusive or anything and well assault is not as serious in the Wizarding world but if we're gonna judge, Ron is not the worse of the two.
Also there's the fact that Dramione fans thought Draco was so smart (book smart like Hermione) while there was parts in the books where it suggests the opposite and there's the fact he literally got 3 owls?
Okay this feels so much like the kurtbastian/anti-blaine/obnoxious Kurt stans over here. Like calling Blaine ab*sive and toxic while coddling Kurt as if he's a perfect angel who is violated by Blaine when it couldn't be as far from the truth as possible. And glossing over the not so perfect side of kurt. And calling Kurtbastian the pinnacle of romance
God, I thought these people only existed in the glee Fandom, but now I can see these senseless fans are everywhere.
I've not read hp in a long while so I have quite a hazy memory but as far as I can remember Ron was jealous and wrong at times but he was also the one who felt guilty and apologized for things he did while Hermione was jealous too ( the whole lavender brown thing) and even tried to harm Ron but since she's the strong can do no wrong character, she's praised in the fandom ( this is in no way me trying to be anti Hermione cause I do really love her ( just like I do with Kurt))
And how can anyone call Draco smart, he's only ever acted on impulse and the only part where I found him interesting was in the half blood prince. But I guess the fandom wants to make the villainous white character to be someone special ( just like people do with Sébastien)
And people are too invested in the movies that they forget that Ron was stripped of all his great character traits in the movies and that book Ron was smart enough to always stick by Harry and help him in his missions.
And I'm a Romione shipper so I truly don't understand how people can even remotely like dramione (or drarry for that matter) but people do the same thing with Kurtbastian so I'm not really surprised.
Honestly Brittany is underhated in my opinion lmao. Like I was literally waiting for ages for someone to make a negative thread about I am unicorn on reddit so I could hate on her. Last time someone made a thread about that episode said "Kurt was an asshole to yell at Brittany. He could have kindly explained to her to remove the posters" like he did? But Brittany went to ahead and hung the posters anyway. :/
Oh hey we just watched that ep! And I hated it! I don't know if I'd call it the worse episode, but it made me more uncomfortable than Asian F and Pot o Gold, which we watched right after. Like I've never had that bad a reaction to that ep before but wow
KURT: Look, I don’t just want to be know has Kurt Hummel: Homo.
BRITTANY: What’s wrong with that? Look - 99% of the kids at school are either freaks or closet freaks. The captain of the football squad - he gets the job, but he doesn’t represent the people. That’s why we need a unicorn.
My sister asked me if I agreed with that sentiment (being sure to say "If it wasn't Brittany saying it, how would you feel?" bc that makes a difference lol) and my response was "What did she say? I just tune her out now"
I mean obviously the sentiment isn't wrong. How often do we say that almost any one of the glee clubbers would be a better leader or representative than flop hudson. I just feel like Brittany is feeding into a larger problem that I have with season 3 in regards to Kurt
Which is just how they make so many jokes about Kurt being more flamboyant and girly than he actually is. Rachel saying she wants to see Kurt in a bridesmaid’s dress. Finn saying "What's with the sparkly jacket i thought you were kurt" but then he also has a comment in s2 about "sequined riding pants". but when has kurt ever wore sequins or sparkles outside of mercedes's dreamgirls fantasy number?? and having actual adults talk about how he isn't sexy enough (call the police) and laughing him out of an audition bc he's sooo fucking gay ha ha. i kinda talk about it here if you wanna read more unrelated angry rambling
Anyway all that to say. Kurt is not straight passing! He doesn’t need to be! He’s bold, theatrical, he loves fashion, he loves Broadway, and that’s great! But the pink sparkly unicorn stuff is something Brittany tried to force on him.
Kurt loves Judy Garland. He wanted to pay tribute to her with his campaign posters, hearkening back to her Blackglama fur coat ad. Something that references a beloved icon of the queer community, and fashion history at the same time. Two things that are very Kurt
But with Brittany, all nuance and clever reference is gone. She puts ruby slippers in the goody bag, just because they’re sparkly and flamboyant. They reference Judy in the most cliche and obvious way possible. Even if someone wants to claim it was her own version of a clever reference, she still has more pointless stuff in there as well. Unicorns, a teletubby, hair bands?? What does any of this have to do with Kurt or what he likes or represents?
And obviously there is nothing wrong with being the most flamboyant gay person you want to be. Pink and sparkles and rainbows obviously aren’t bad on their own. Not trying to sound like the shitty old “Gay people I respect vs gay people I don’t respect” meme. It’s just. Every gay person is more than their sexuality. No matter how flamboyant they are, how they dress, how many rainbows they wanna slap on everything. That’s still a whole person. Just bc all YOU see is a giant rainbow flag, that doesn’t mean that’s all they are
Brittany thinks being gay is nothing but pink unicorns and rainbow glitter. How is that any different from the shit Karofsky or Azimio or any other bully says about Kurt?? At the end of the day it’s just someone trying to cram him in a tiny little box that he is far too big, too bold, too nuanced to fit into
I mean god fucking forbid, but imagine if Brittany was “helping” Mercedes run for president like this. Telling her that being black should be her main personality trait, and filling a goody bag with items that are Brittany’s idea of what being “black” means to HER 💀💀 (I mean anybody with common sense could see it was insane, but her stans would react the same way and make Mercedes the bad guy when she reacted poorly bc what else is new lol)
And all her dumbass unicorn talk literally made Kurt start to dislike that part of himself! Like he’s always been bullied for it but he was still unapologetically himself. But Brittany’s campaign idea contributed to Kurt thinking he needed to change himself, and saying he was tired of being a unicorn. And in s3 he starts wearing more drab colors and all these sweaters and capes and he’s bundling himself up like he’s protecting himself and it makes me sad. And they bring in a completely new character that looks like Kurt just to call Kurt ugly and a girl and make fun of him. It drives me up a fucking wall! Season 3 is so awful to Kurt i literally can’t stand it. And it all starts with Brittany :) Thanks for that. Girl power!
And after dealing with the pain and humiliation of literally being laughed out of an audition BY MEMBERS OF THE FACULTY for being “too gay” Kurt is faced with the bright pink unicorn posters with his face on him that say “This is your box! This is all you will ever be!” and wow i can’t imagine why he’d be upset with Brittany for that!! Who’da thunk??? Brittany was a selfish idiot for hanging them up. Kurt had every right to be upset. And Santana was an idiot for invalidating Kurt’s feelings and just boosting Brittany up when she was obviously in the wrong. But that’s Br*ttana for you :)
I’m not even happy about Kurt “accepting” the posters and hanging them up himself and making that his campaign theme. That’s the version of Kurt that someone else made up in their head. That’s not him. He is so much more than Brittany’s tiny little brain could ever even comprehend lol. So yeah. I hate her :)
Ok I'm really bad at unpopular opinions stuff cause I'm very easy to be persuaded with the popular fandom opinions ( one of my biggest weaknesses which is why I stay out of fandoms as much as I can )
but, here are some opinions that I think are not common with the fandom
I will build a Rachel and Blaine ( and tina too tbh ) defense squad if I can as this fandom hates them senselessly because of which I've become so much more protective of them
I think I dislike Holly and April more than I do with Mr.Schue. Everyone says Holly would've been a better teacher but all I see with her is coddling her students and giving them free rein which leads to them messing up real bad and Holly not taking responsibility for it. And saying very inappropriate sexual stuff and making people feel bad about being celibate and stuff. yeah, I just don't vibe with her
I like glee more when either it goes totally off the rail with the craziness or when it gets really angsty and fills me with heartbreak, there's no in-between there for me with the show. Like, my fav eps are puppet master, loser like me ( the number of times I've rewatched the klaine breakup scene, hummelberry scene, and scandals scene is insane ), hurt locker part 2, and tested.
I vehemently despise s3 and have not rewatched it ever which is why you'll barely see s3 stuff in my videos because I barely remember any of it and most of my memory comes from being on Tumblr. On the flip side, I love s5 ( esp s5b but the s5a part is also very much enjoyable ) and s6 ( which actually are the only seasons I've rewatched )
I truly don't like any of the non-cannon ships for klaine unless they are totally out of the mind's reach like Blaine*Jake, Kurt*Mike, Artie* Kurt* Blaine, Blaine* the VA leader in s5 ( i guess his name is Jeane baptist ? ). like I know these ships will never have any strong opinions from fandom, so I like imagining storylines or read fics for them cause most of these people like klaine but also want to see other options for the boys and will never hate on klaine
And i don't like brittany but i feel like that's a popular opinion nowadays which is why i barely talk about her ( and because of which i truly can't get into brittana eventhough i appreciate their relationship and find them cute and am happy they found each other )
And tike/mike is totally not my cup of tea and you seem to be the only person who would agree with me on this . just TINA DESERVES BETTER THAN SOMEONE WHO COMPARES HER TO RACHEL AND TELLS HER TO KEEP BEING IN THE BACKGROUND INSTEAD OF ASKING FOR HER DESERVED SPOTLIGHT
yeah so this became quite long but yeah , thanks a lot for the ask . it felt really good talking about my thoughts on glee apart from things related to klaine
Honestly I think people mistake everything about maturity. The number of times I have seen people say "Kurt is the more mature one and that's why he have more masculine traits", really makes me mad. Like not only I want to know since when Kurt has become the more mature one, I also want to know when maturity has become a masculine trait lmao. Like it's kinda proven females in general mature faster. Don't give men too much credit.😬
It's literally 1950s fucking gender roles lmao. Let me decide Klaine's entire relationship dynamic by determining who grills the meat and who makes the salad uwu
Also like... I think Kurt's "maturity" is mostly credited to the fact that he's usually the more stoic one. Because he's so used to walking around with all these walls up to protect himself. And sometimes he has trouble expressing his emotions. Which leads to communication issues and things like "Sometimes I think we talk too much" // "You have to talk to me about these things". Which is kind of the exact opposite of being mature about things lol
BUT blaine has insecurities brought on by his mental illness and sometimes that makes him need validation and reassurance which is the same as Blaine being a whiny and clingy little baby lol
Kurt doesn't need an immature 19 year old brat. He needs an older, wiser, more mature lover that's the ripe old age of ~21. That's the real man Kurt needs. Or he could be with a 19 year old if it's Sam. Who never acts immature at all. Not once! Not like Blaine
I think it all comes down to the fact that people cannot handle that these characters are actually nuanced. They think everything has to be black or white. And in thinking that one character always has to be right, has to be mature, or whatever, they miss all the nuance that comes with two such wonderful characters
Kurt and Blaine could both be mature, or immature. They had plenty moments of both. They each had stereotypically feminine traits and interests, as well as stereotypically masculine traits and interests. They could both be extremely eloquent, while at other times have trouble expressing their feelings
These are two incredibly well acted, (mostly) well written characters that contain multitudes. Trying to fit either of them into one teeny tiny little box they can't escape from, that diminishes the impact they both had. It strips them of all nuance and makes them into boring caricatures that don't do an accurate job of representing all that they were and all that they did
Who is the most iconic glee character and why is it me?
omg king i can't believe i got a message from you. this must be what it feels like when people talk about hearing the voice of god
you changed the game during your brief time on the show. nothing was the same after you were introduced, and nothing ever filled the hole created when you left. they should've ended the show after you died. fly high, king. we love you <3
I'm late but I remember someone saying on the prom post that "It irks me that people praise Blaine for asking Kurt to dance. I mean what kind of asshole asshole wouldn't do that? It's the least he could do"
These people are completely ignoring the fact that Blaine was assaulted the last time he went to dance with a boy and he was hesitant to go in the first place. If he didn't ask Kurt to dance, it honestly would have been understandable in my opinion but he had the courage to do it and that's what we praise him and Idk why it should irk people.🙄
Well first you'd have to acknowledge Blaine as his own person with his own history, experiences, and baggage rather than a prop for Kurt's story. If he's anything less than 100% perfect for Kurt and exactly what Kurt needs for his story and his growth in the moment, then he's trash
Also like. They think Blaine must've lied about Sadie Hawkins. Bc he pushed through his fears for Kurt, and then wasn't as affected by his trauma TWO YEARS later. So. Y'know. Baby steps here
Literally that old post I reblogged about how stupid Klainers are for praising Blaine for taking the slushie for Kurt bc "it's not like he took a bullet" like... I can't believe it's not satire!
Also if every good deed or kind gesture from Blaine is basic human decency and base level behavior and the barest minimum that Kurt deserves... Where is that from Sebastian? Karofsky? From Sam beyond 2x04 lol
Like... Blaine's good behavior should apparently be a given. And yet Kurt doesn't even get that from everyone he gets shipped with. That's why the comparisons are so fucking stupid. The arguments don't have a leg to stand on lol
Haha honestly the prom post was one of the most crazy things I had ever read. Like they say the moment was about coming out and since Blaine was already out, it had no impact. But the moment was not about coming out? It was about standing up to the bullies and showing them whatever they do, they can't touch them and change them.
um hello?? kurt was already out. hence the homophobic prank besties. was blaine supposed to grab karofsky and force him out of the closet? is that somehow helping?? that's the only way it could've been about coming out
Kurt: You couldn’t face up to the bullies at your school, so you can do it at mine. We could do it together.
Kurt: Wasn’t this prom supposed to be about redemption? About taking away that lump you had in your throat from running away?
Kurt: -they can’t touch me. They can’t touch US, or what we have.
Blaine Antis: This moment is supposed to be all about Kurt how dare Blaine try and take attention away from him!!!
like honeys... the character you claim to stan literally doesn't even agree with you. what the fresh hell are you talking about.
It's so crazy bc like. Yes these are all fictional characters. But you'd have to be supremely ignorant to assume that there aren't people out there exactly like Kurt and Blaine. And Klaine doesn't have to be your all time otp or anything. But even just separating the situation from Klaine...
You watch Person A open up about their trauma with Person B. Then Person A still agrees to put themselves in a potentially triggering situation bc they want to support Person B. Then B ends up getting a humiliating prank played on them. And A still sticks their neck out further to come to B's side and support them. And people want to say A did it for the attention???
I'm just gonna think you completely lack either empathy or critical thinking skills. Or both. And I know it's not that serious but. Also it is that serious. I just have to assume some synapses aren't firing right up there. Idk what else to think. These mental gymnastics go sO FAR beyond just plain not liking a character. It's strange man
