Man, if life could get a good 20% less crunchy RN, that would be dandy! Ahh well...let's talk about Punishment Island (@punishmentisland ). Punishment island is a Ugandan horror story podcast. Much like Otis Jiry's Scary Tales Told in the Dark or short form anthology podcasts, this isn't a single narrative, Masembe tells a different tale each episode. From a miserable boarding school to a strange island where unwed mothers are abandon, it's more creepy supernatural horror than jump scares or the like. Like the fingers of a scary story walking up your back. Sad days that there have only been 5 episodes since 2019, so probably a #ghostpod #abandoncast , but Masembe, if you're still checking this IG, please 🙏 feel free to prove me wrong. 🙂 Either way, if you've got about 2 hours, you'll get through those episodes. I think they're worth it! So, if you like creepy fireside story type horror, African podcasts, or dark magical realism vibes, then Punishment Island is for you!

Back in 2017, Night Vale Presents, the production company behind @nightvaleofficial and many other great podcasts, brought us It Makes A Sound @itmakesasound , and it was magical. Deirdra Gardner returns to her childhood home in the half abandon golf course community of Rosemary Hills to clean out the attic of her childhood home and she finds something, a massive wollop of nostalgia, a cassette tape of Wim Faros (?), her middle school crush, from the concert he gave in the community club house for Tricia Elwood's birthday party. Presented as a podcast, Deirdra takes us on a trip down memory lane, as she relives her deep, cringe worthy (as all deep middle school crushes are) middle school crush on Wim, and her search for *the music*...and gosh darn it, a working cassette tape player. I'm torn between telling you everything and wanting you to discover for yourself. But suffice it to say, it's more than just a reminiscence, it's a sweet story of music, memory, and some loud ass peacocks. Season 1 was great! And then nothing. I join the patreon to fund the soundtrack, because earworms are real! Got through that, and still no season 2. 🥺 Like many middle school crushes/ #ghostpod crushes things seemed to have gone south. Still nothing... Then finally at the beginning of this year, they announced that they had had to go into independent production, and that had caused a delay, but they were making season 2! So one day soon, we can all together continue to "Remember Wim Faros!"
