THE HAUNTED BATES HOUSE - Joliet, Illinois. The A. J. Bates House (1888), located in the haunted house-rich city of Joliet, is considered to be one of the "Most Haunted" in the area. Designed by Joliet architect Frank Shaver Allen, this Victorian-style residential structure has been the focus of creepy urban legends for decades. Rumor holds that a "Mad Doctor" once conducted illegal operations and "bizarre experiments" in this abode. Accounts of weird shadows, disembodied voices (or screams), cold spots, and movements "out of the corner of your eye" abound in local legend. This house certainly fits the description as to what a haunted house should look like. Creepy. JOLIET'S HAUNTED PATRICK C. HALEY MANSION - Joliet, Illinois. Designed by Joliet architect Frank Shaver Allen, and built in 1891 for Joliet Mayor Patrick C. Haley, this castle-like mansion (and one-time funeral home) is considered to be one of Joliet's "Most Haunted" houses. A number of ghostly encounters with spectral beings, disembodied voices, and self-moving objects have been allegedly reported at this creepy locale. This stately mansion now operates as a private events center that specializes in hosting high-class weddings - along with it's ghosts.
