Peeps out here be headcanoning Beetlejuice as being literally smelling like a rancid trash pile, and that’s totally valid but doesn’t really dig deep enough for me.
Keetlejuice I think would be the closest to this, he’s a gross unwashed dude who’s been dead at least 600 years, has crap growing on his face and literally looks like his hair could be used to skewer dead things like a shrike’s larder. Smells like super old unwashed BO, rotting cloth, and wet paper from dealing with books and paperwork in the afterlife.
Juicey Juice is actually the cleanest of the lot, since he has a home and canonically changes his clothes for various disguises and occasions and while he’s no Donny, he still maintains himself pretty well. Smells mostly like smoke and wet dirt, with an underlying musty smell like old vinyl car seats and a weird electrical kind of smell from his magic.
Beej was never alive, so he never had a physical body that went through getting smelly and sweaty and yuck, but he has hung around the living and newly dead pretty often, especially in liminal spaces like graveyards and crossroads and such. Smells like wet, rotting leaves and fresh turned earth, with that eerie chalky dry scent of bone that’s been baked hot and long until it crumbles into dust.
