If you ever need a gift idea for a kid 3 or older, you cannot go wrong with a flashlight or battery-operated camping lantern. Kids fuckin' LOVE a goddamned flashlight. It'll be the best and most-used gift they get. It's used for surreptitious under-blanket reading, play-acting cave or haunted house adventures, and generally keeping monsters away when the nightlight is insufficient.

It is a multi-use tool.

I bring this up both because we're coming up on a gift-intensive season and a small LED camping lantern will be a lot of gift bang for your buck, and because every adult forgets The Flashlight Period of development until you remind them, including parents. Watching kids grow up means relearning all of humanity's primal fears and needs, it's like going back in time 30,000 years.

Oh man, I totally forgot, my gf is 20, and she also really loves socks. She has so many cool socks, with burgers, fries and pugs on them. On our first date we watched Star Wars, but she's never seen the older films. She also likes architecture and like minimalist room designs and stuff.

so since you haven’t given me a budget but you have mentioned my favorite gift in the world (socks) here goes:

two pairs socks to represent each of you (eg your fave food is sushi hers is ice-cream), another pair to symbolize any number of important events in your relationship (eg. socks with star on them or literal star wars socks). you get as many socks as your budget allows for wrap them individually with little notes attached explaining your reasoning with sth cutesy… you could present them all in a pretty box but i don’t know if her minimalist aesthetic would allow for that.

plan a trip to the nearest place of architectural interest. figure out a way to make it special by searching the net for cool places and cool places to view cool places from (still with me?)… maybe there’s an old abandoned factory, or someplace you can take a private tour of, or a cozy cafe overlooking the city, or an old theater you can book just for her

be sneaky and go shopping with her around places where she’s bound to see something like an awesome lamp or whatever she can make love to with her eyes through the shop window. buy said awesome lamp… this works for everything not just minimalist furniture. just remember… constant vigilance!

Unless they had already planned a honeymoon trip themselves. Hm... Maybe they should ask first?

Sister, 17th birthday present ideas. Loves musicals, and is an actress and singer, wants to go to drama school but in college at the minute. She loves make up and hair things. Around £30 budget

do the big sibling thing and take her to the cinema(check for any screenings of old classic musicals) or to a play/musical if you live close enough to each other and a good theatre to allow that(pitch perfect 2 is sadly coming out in may otherwise it would have been a great choice)

you know those special edition themed sets mac has? well, squeeze your brain and test your musical theatre knowledge by figuring out colors that would fit her fave musical and do a homemade version:

singing in the rain: yellow nail polish, lavender or soft bluish eyeshadow and a nice pink lipstick or tinted lipbalm

les mis: red the color of your lips, black the color of dis eyeliner (and don't forget blush for that lovely ladylike glow of consumption)
