Patterns in Pearl Jam's discography: the crooked hearts
The three crooked hearts from Smile (1996), drawn by Dennis Flemion of The Frogs, as seen in the back of one of the No Code Polaroids:
Three crooked hearts swirls all around
I miss you all day
------
Future Days (2013):
All the complexities and games
No one wins, but somehow, they're still played
All the missing crooked hearts
They may die, but in us they live on
------
Gigaton (2020)
The three flames used in the promotion campaign of the album were also heart-shaped in different ways, and the logo replicated the waves of a seismic wave, but also an electrocardiogram.
Home is where… the broken heart is
Home is where… every scar is
[...]
As the silence gets louder my heart gets pounding
And ventricles pumping, working overtime
------
Dark Matter (2024):
In the "Won't Tell" visualizer, the multi-coloured light trail forms a crooked heart at the end.
Can you heal? Can you feel
The change in my heart?
Three Weavers Gigaton Double IPA (Picked up at Total Wine). A 3 of 4. Nice bit of tropical fruit and some herbal/resinous hop notes in the nose, and the body is quite aggressive and boozy. The choice to put this in a 19.2oz can is an interesting one, given how aggressive this is on the palate, but it delivers what it promises.
Portrait of Pearl Jam by artist Simon Prades for Rolling Stone, celebrating the band’s latest album Gigaton.
gigaton is a killer record and i will simply perish if i don’t see some of these songs played live soon. quick escape live? whole place would start bouncing. i can’t wait.
River Cross by Pearl Jam
I want this dream to last forever
A wish denied to lengthen our time
I wish this moment was never ending
Let it be a lie that all futures die
While the government thrives on discontent
And there's no such thing as clear
Proselytizing and profitizing
As our will all but disappears
Folded over, forced in a choke hold
Outnumbered and held down
And all these talk of rapture
Look around at the promise now
Here and now
....
Share the light, won’t hold us down
