It was NOT A HUNT. It felt very much like one though, as Nnoitra stalked the trace of the elf's spirit. Nnoitra was a natural ambush predator, and patiently, slowly following his meal was exactly how he preferred to hunt. He could tell that Thranduil was moving, and as he got closer to him, he could tell that the other wasn't alone. He was accompanied by others who shared a sense of the same immortality. Other elves, Nnoitra guessed. The party was heading towards the edge of the forest, and Nnoitra followed. His pace just slightly quicker in order to catch up.
When the forest opened up, giving away to a wide sky, he caught up. There was a breeze, which had been hidden in the woods. Grey clouds chased vigorously across a pale blue. A few fallen leaves drifted across the ground, and Nnoitra's bangs briefly shifted out of their usual place, to almost cover his single eye.
He hadn't seen him in a while. He was taller than the guards that stood around him. They were about to draw their weapons. Nnoitra's built-in battle instinct reacted instantly, and his fingers tightened around the hilt of Santa Teresa. Thranduil held up a hand. The guards stopped. Nnoitra's hand relaxed again. He took a few more steps out, so that the shade of the trees was no longer covering him.
Thranduil looked different. Dressed in colours that matched the landscape. His crown too, was different. He didn't seem like he was dying. Of course, he looked better in green and silver, but Nnoitra found himself feeling relieved not to see him dying. He had half expected to find him with decaying, like the world around them seemed to be.
Perhaps the elf understood that his subordinates would enjoy no protection, like he, himself did ( after all, Nnoitra had never harmed him ). Not yet anyway. He was protecting them by sending them away. It wasn't as if their presence was any kind of reassurance for the elven king. Nnoitra could kill him whenever he wanted to. Nnoitra did believe Thranduil was aware of this, but the other was very good at hiding his fear - if he felt any. What met Nnoitra was simply annoyance, as per usual. Thranduil might LOOK different, but he was the same as always. Again, this was a relief.
Why are you here? He wanted to know.
There is nothing for someone like you in these lands.
Nnoitra looked around, as more leaves fell to the ground, tugged down by the breeze.
❝ Looks 'ta me like this land is dyin'. ❞ He said, not answering the question of what he was doing here. He took a few steps closer, leaving Thranduil within reach. ❝ But ya seem fine. ❞ A relief. It would be a shame for the elf to die. Did he want verbal confirmation? Yes. / @gildinbainas .
