My thought watching was maybe Mary was Moran in the PAST. We know she was a sniper, and Moran and Morstan are very similar last names. I thought it would be a great backstory twist for a wonderfully complex character (NOTHING but LOVE for Mary here!! :)
I do agree that it would have been an interesting twist, but as it stands I'm convinced that there is a 0% chance of it happening in the future and I'm getting really frustrated with people using it as a way to write her off. If her character had played out differently that would have been one thing (although personally I'm very glad they didn't go that route because I'm so sick of the manipulative woman seducing a man for her own selfish evil ends trope) but with what we know about her I'm certain that she's left her past behind her.
Also just a little nitpick (less with you and more with people in general) - while we know that Mary is a crack shot, we have absolutely no proof that she was actually a sniper. Someone can be an amazing marksman and not be a sniper, since that's very specialized training that very few people receive. She's crazy fast and accurate with a pistol, but sniper rifles and the way you shoot them are another beast entirely and we don't actually know that's what she did. Also we don't even 100% know that she was an "assassin" as everyone likes to call her. Undercover agent for a foreign agency (likely the CIA) definitely, but a freelance assassin going around murdering whoever she felt like absolutely not.
