Welcome Post!

Welcome to the Geraskier Midsummer Mini Bang!  

What is a mini bang?  It’s a fandom challenge involving a team up of authors and artists!  Unlike a big bang, the minimum word count is much lower.  In this case, 5,000 words.  

What is midsummer?  In the Witcher fandom, midsummer or Midaëte is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, celebrated as part of the elven year. It marks the beginning of the sixth savaed in the elven calendar, Feainn.  Summer Shrines are erected on this day "to give praise to the sun and life, while acknowledging death's certainty". They are supposed to draw power from the sun's heat and protect all living things. They are used by witches to bless crops and summon fires, as well as by witchers to increase the intensity of their Signs (from https://witcher.fandom.com/wiki/Midsummer).  In our world, midsummer falls on June 20th, 2020, which is when posting will begin.  

What is Geraskier?  The pairing of Geralt of Rivia and Jaskier the bard from The Witcher fandom.

Seeking Artists

We have had an overwhelming response to our author sign ups, and while we are happy to have our wonderful authors, we have had much fewer artists sign up.  We are debating closing author sign ups early, but we wanted to put a call out for additional artists before we decide to do that.  Artist sign ups will be open until May 2nd, but we would implore any artist who will sign up to please sign up early so we can stop panicking!  If we don’t get enough interest from artists in the next couple of days, we will have to close author sign ups early so we can focus on getting enough artists for those who have already signed up.  Please toss us a reblog, and tag your favorite Geraskier fan artists who might be interested in signing up!

The last day for authors to sign up is April 15th, while artist and beta sign ups will be open until May 2nd. Make sure you check out all the info about requirements and schedule on our blog, if you haven’t yet.

Posting Guidelines

Greetings, Witchlings!  As we approach the start of the posting dates, we wanted to give a run down of how we would like posting to go. Please take your time to read this carefully.

The posting period is from June 20th to July 11th.  

Authors and artists will decide on a posting date that will work for both parties. We are not assigning you a date.

Both pieces must be posted on the same day.

 If the fic is multi-chaptered, authors can post the chapters on multiple days within the posting period, if they wish to. The art piece should be posted together with the relevant chapter that it’s illustrating. If the piece isn’t specific to a single moment in the fic, author and artist can decide when they think it’s best to post it.

We prefer art to be embedded into fics when posting on, but that is not a requirement.

If you can’t embed the art, make sure art and fic are both linked to each other.

You are allowed to post to multiple platforms.

reminders & timeline

Hello, witchlings! We hope you’re all doing great. We’re getting closer to the claims phase, aka when things start to get really interesting and everyone is screaming with anticipation! Here are some reminders for you bang participants:

AUTHORS  -- if you haven’t submitted your summary form yet, here’s your reminder to do so before the end of May 2nd, which is this Saturday! If you intend to drop out, please let us know before the deadline by filling in the first part of the form.

ARTISTS -- once we have all the summaries and it’s all set, we’ll send you the claims form and all the necessary info via e-mail by May 3rd. Remember that the claims won’t be carried out on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so take your time reading through the fic summaries and tags carefully! Fics will be assigned via a raffle by order of preference, so what we’re going to ask you is to rank the fic summaries according to your personal preference.

BETA READERS -- after May 2nd, we’re also going to make the list of available beta readers public so that the authors can read through your info and contact you via Tumblr/Discord to discuss the possibility of beta’ing their fics! We’d recommend joining the server, if you can, as many of our authors are in there and it will make it much easier for beta readers and writers to find the perfect match ;)

Finally, a reminder that you can still sign up to be an artist or a beta reader for our mini bang! The deadline is May 2nd. Don’t be shy 💛 we have many first timers and we’re all here to hype each other up! You can join our lovely Discord server by clicking on this INVITE LINK

Schedule

April 1st - author, artist, and beta sign ups open

April 15th - last day for authors to sign up

May 2nd - author check in - 25% of your fic must be written and summaries submitted, with rating and trigger warnings; last day for artists and betas to sign up - last day for authors to drop out without penalty

May 9th - all artist claims must be submitted, beta list drops

June 6th - author/artist check in - all works must be 75% complete - last day for artists to drop out without penalty June 20th - July 4th - posting of complete works to tumblr - artists and authors must post works on the same day, if posting to AO3 please post to the Geraskier Midsummer Mini Bang collection In total, authors will have a maximum of 3 months and 9 days and a minimum of 2 months and 21 days; artists and betas will have 1 month and 26 days.
