Another headcanon: Max didn't trick Chloe into wearing the cursed bracelet at all. He told her exactly what it did, and she decided metaphorically cutting out her own heart would be better than suffering.

Max: Come on, try it on, you're going to love it. I swear. Chloe: No, I couldn't. I shouldn't. I wouldn't even dare. Max: See how it sparkles? It's just like you. Chloe: A part of me is scared, but I have nothing left to lose.

Why would she be scared if she didn't understand what it would do? He told her the truth so she could make an informed decision to choose to screw over Red of her own free will.

This is a song-ified shorthand for a much longer conversation. Did he butter her up, calling her beautiful? Yes, absolutely he did. A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, after all. But he didn't trick her. He probably even meant it.

They bonded over their mutual anger for Red and he was like "Yo, hear me out. This thing will make you evil - I know what you're going to say, just please listen for a second- the trade-off is that what Red did to you won't hurt any more. And you can always take it off if you don't like how it makes you feel. You'll have total control, I promise. What do you think? Want to take evil for a spin?"
