The Love She Offered #3
The Love She Offered #3 Source Point Press/Comics Experience 2019 Written by Glenn Møane Illustrated by Tirso Llaneta Coloured by Katherine Lobo Lettered by Marco Della Verde The mini-series finale! Will Brian get to the bottom of what really happened the night Julia was killed? Or will the truth remain hidden from him, even as dark secrets are revealed? The only certainty is that not one person is going to walk away from the cabin without blood on their hands. Okay well this issue certainly doesn't play out anything like you would expect it to. So I am extremely impressed with the way Glenn is not only telling this story but the way he's been able to structure the book as well. I mean as smart as I like to think I am when we saw Sean killing Julia whose vision of events was that? Did anyone even ask that question because I sure as hell didn't so what was the real story? Does Sean admit he did it or will he keep claiming his innocence? So far what Glenn has done here has been phenomenal and this conclusion is not just the icing on the cake but it adds another layer on top of that. The story & plot development that we see here as it reveals the information as well set up a number question marks in our minds is exceptionally well done. The character development is a roller coaster ride of misdirection, aggressiveness and idiocy that is so good and fascinating that it astounds the reader. When the pacing is thrown into the mix and we see the various twists, turns and revelations you realise that Glenn is one of today's most interesting accomplished writer. I say this with all sincerity as the journey that this took me on is one I will never forget and made an instant fan wanting to see so much more from him. Very rarely do we come across someone whose work is one book that happens to be three issues long and yet leaves the kind of impact on the reader as this one does. We talk about character finds and genre defying or redefining work but let's talk about one of the most exciting fresh, new voices to tell those stories. Not to be left out but the rest of the creators on this book are as equally exciting to see as their work also remains so outstanding and the rendering of what we see visually is utterly magnificent. So let's get to that more in-depth shall we? The linework is exquisite and how we see the varying weights of the linework utilised to create this attention to detail is mindbogglingly good. I mean the fact that details remain consistent when we see items, like a couch, throughout their appearance is the kind of attention that I wish everyone had. Unfortunately we don't see Sean naked and we should have also his briefs should've been stained completely by piss and poop but then again I am literally nitpicking. The human anatomy that we see is spectacular and the body proportions are amazing. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show this masterful eye for storytelling. The colour work is sublime. The way a base colour is chosen and then how we see the hues and tones within that colour utilised to create the shading and shadows is beautifully done. Listen up and listen good. Source Point Press travels to so many conventions and it's very easy to find them at one. Go to them and get these issues or if there's a trade available then it must absolutely go home with you. What started out as something that I thought would be a pretty standard story turned into anything but that. This is what we live for, what we buy comics for and it's that thrill of discovering someone new and loving what they do. This is why I write reviews, to introduce you to books and companies that you may not be fully aware of but you need to be. So if you don't go to conventions get on the horn to local shop or subscription service and make sure this finds its way to you, today!
