In his canon (RP...not so much,) Nyk does keep a horse. Sort of.

This is Glimma. (Nyk* is no longer allowed to dole out names.) Fleabitten mare, built like a tank, approx. 300 years old. Technically a troll, but the immortal blood runs thin enough that it’s hard to tell. Yet, she is still vulnerable to iron. Glimma does not speak; maybe she can’t, maybe she’s wise enough not to. Keen observation would suggest that she can certainly understand speech. That, and she’s much, much stronger than any mortal beast has a right to be. Faster, too. As with speech, she’s never been known to change shape. It’s very possible that she can’t. 

Then, again, she doesn’t need to. She’s a horse, mostly, and she does horse things. She eats, rolls in the dirt, works hard, spies on people and thunders about.

*Glimma is Nyk’s great, great—times seventy or so—granddaughter, out of Sruto’s bloodline. Nyk raised her and, in canon, they’re inseparable. Partners in crime. Partners in grime.
