Okay this is a continuation of a Text Post I made a long while back that probably only my old followers know.
So, a long while ago I made a post about how similar Lapis and Peridot's friendship arc is similar to Glinda and Elphaba's from the musical, Wicked. And.. I know I'm late to say this, but the separation of Lapis and Peridot totally support this claim! Elphaba left Glinda because she didnt want Glinda to be caught up in a war between the people of Oz and her. But with Lapis, Lapis left because SHE didnt want to be caught up in a war between the diamonds and the crystal gems. All of it connects perfectly!
I'm just building onto this at this point. But I love this concept. I love you guys. And I hope you like my trash.
i watched wicked today and im like, fucking dead but also picked up on how fucking gay it is without even particularly looking for it
- the entirety of loathing like that’s just about compulsory heterosexuality and being afraid of being out and understanding yourself and your own feelings
- dancing through life is glinda truly realising her feelings for elphaba and then going against everyone else’s expectations of who she is and how she acts, essentially, a coming out (especially when they’re dancing together alone, in the spotlight, very romantic connotations)
- when glinda pins back elphie’s hair in popular it’s the two of them on the bed, and the theme for im not that girl plays, a general love/loving someone you can’t have song. glinda is introducing elphaba to who she can be, two bi girls discovering and supporting themselves and each other. im super into symbolism but i couldnt tell what the flower was, but pink is obvs passion and a somewhat childlike new nature, something young and growing like their relationship, as well as glinda basically giving a part of herself to elphie
- im not that girl is about the general relationship of fiyero/glinda and mostly uses he pronouns but could easily be elphaba denying to herself what she’s really jealous of (fiyero, for having glinda and a generally happy relationship which she’s only ever had with glinda, her first friend)
- glinda says “this is what other people feel like”, showing understanding of an outside world she didn’t previously relate to, a renewed sense of who she is as a person and how she fits in in the world
- the emerald city is the first place they both belong, similar to a pride celebration, where there a things they can both enjoy that they’ve never been able to find in the wider world, they’re safe and finally truly fit in together
- defying gravity is about standing up for what’s right even if it’s scary because at some point you can’t hide anymore, the point where elphie breaks and has to be free and “out”. elphaba tries to convince glinda to go with her but glinda is still too scared and values her professional image and the figure of the all-powerful ruling wizard too much (lito anyone??), but wishes elphie luck
- they meet in secret like three times in the second act for their own safety because the world is unaccepting of their relationship, particularly of the more outspoken and rebellious partner (elphie)
- im too emotional to really talk about for good
- no im not holy fuck that was gay
- its clear from for good that the two of them had an enormous impact on each other’s lives, helping each other figure out their feelings, what’s right and wrong, lots of free and growth metaphors (rivers, forest, birds, seeds). i had a point about how the theme ties into the finale and main theme of the show but i’ve forgotten it
anYWAy wicked has so much gay potential im so sad they went and did a fukcking love triangle
Glinda and Elphaba were queer as fuck I don't know why nobody ever told me this.
