WARNING: emotional, hints at surgery, prosthetic limbs, anger and violence, kissing
[a bit of a shorter fic. I was anxious to get this idea out so apologies if it seems rushed. I've had this thought in my head for a while. Enjoy]
Pairing: Connor x reader (romantically)
Hank x reader (paternal)
3rd person POV
(Reader is female or identifying as she/her)
Connor stared at the empty desk. It had been 3 months since the accident and Y/N still hadn’t returned to work. ‘Could I have prevented it?’ He thought to himself. He had been so lost in his own mind that he hadn’t heard Lieutenant Anderson calling for him.
“Connor? Connor!” Hank waved a hand in front of the android's face. “You still with me son?” Hank’s usually gruff and indifferent disposition softened into sincere worry.
“My apologies, Hank. I was just...thinking.” Connor answered after a moment. His LED shining a vibrant yellow. “Y/N still hasn’t returned to work. It is two days past her release day and she’s still not here.” He looked like a lost puppy, his eyes trailed the patterns in the floor.
The sudden sound of uneven clacking broke him out of his trance. They almost sounded like footsteps, but one seemed...off. The officers in the room all crowded around the sound, whispering incoherently. Some seemed happy and surprised while others sounded pitiful. Hank and Connor couldn’t see the cause of the commotion through the sea of people. “Where is Detective Reed?” The owner of the clacking sound spoke up, her familiar voice soft and gentle. The voice finally broke free from the crowd, revealing that it was none other than you. Hank gasped, looking over your new design. Your damaged leg was replaced with a sleek white porcelain prosthetic, complete with nerve control and full maneuverability. The leg was pointed to a replaceable foot, which you had placed an elegant heel, the heel itself serving as a weapon of its own.
As you reached to tuck your hair behind your ear, you revealed another improvement. A prosthetic arm similar to your leg had been molded onto your right limb, each finger moving independently. A heart shaped ruby ring sat comfortably on the ring finger.
As you turned around, looking for someone, your final prosthetic was revealed. This one however blended into your skin much easier, unlike the near-glowing white color of the other two. The only indicators revealing there had been any work done was a perfectly round scar that circled your left eye. The eye itself had been replaced with a standard optical receptor similar to what an android would have. A circle of light rested just above it glowing a soft blue. Connor could only assume that it was to monitor the functionality of the eye.
As he looked over your face one last time, he saw it contort into a very faked smile. Once he realized who it was for, him and Hank quickly made it over to where you stood. They barely caught you in time as Gavin Reed entered, a scolding cup of coffee in his hands.
He took a sip as he entered only to spit it back out as he caught sight of you. He slowly and cautiously approached you, hoping you wouldn’t have any hard feelings. “Y/N! It’s so good to have you back!” His awkward and faked excitement only fueled your rage. Everyone stepped aside as they watched you.
“Gavin!” You feigned. “It’s good to see you! How are you? I see you’ve recovered quite nicely.” Your eye twitched as you stared at him. “Oh, wait a moment. You never got hurt, did you?” Anger began to seep into your voice. Gavin took a step back, suddenly frightened at what you might do. “That’s right! Why was that again? Oh, right! Because you used me as a human shield!” You screamed, slowly stepping closer to him. “And I spent two months in the hospital fighting for my life, going through an experimental procedure that could have left me permanently handicapped.”
“B-but you’re okay now right?” His voice quivered, his body shaking in fear. He had ignited an anger in you that you never knew existed. “S-so no harm done, r-right?”
That’s what pushed you over. You backed him against the wall and pulled him up by his shirt, your porcelain fingers gripping the material tightly. “No harm done?” You repeated, a bitter laugh escaping your lips. “I nearly died because of you! If you had just kept your fucking mouth shut-“ your grip tightened and your android eye glowed a dangerous red.
“You didn’t even come to visit me in the hospital…” your voice wavered off, remorse lining your words. “I want so badly to see you suffer like I suffered!” Your body was tense, every muscle contorted with your anger.
“Y/N.” A gruff voice called to you as you felt a warm hand grip your shoulder. “This isn’t going to help anything.” Hank said, feeling your muscles relax a bit. “If you hurt him, it brings you down to his level. You’re better than that.” His words calmed you. You released your grip on Gavin, setting him down roughly.
“If you hurt anyone ever again, it’ll be the last thing you’ll so.” You threatened. You turned back to Hank and Connor, immediately shifting back to the calm and sweet girl that had walked in. You pulled them both into a tight hug, tears brimming your eyes. “Sorry about that guys. I guess I got a little carried away.” You blushed in embarrassment, which Connor found to be adorable. He couldn’t deny that your unusually aggressive tone churned something inside him. Something he couldn’t quite understand.
“Don’t worry about it kid.” Hank patted your back, wrapping his arm around your shoulders and walking you to his desk. “Gavin deserved it. It was so satisfying to see him cower in fear.” He laughed, plopping down in his chair.
As you and Hank continued to chat, you had nearly forgotten all about Connor. He sat as his desk, watching you intently. His eyes were soft and his posture relaxed. You’d never seen him like this before. “Hey, Con?” You said, scooting over to sit on his desk.
Your voice pulled him back to reality and he blinked at you. “My apologies, Y/N.” He said, giving you his full attention. “I was just thinking.”
“About what?” You asked, your nosey instincts kicking in. “Is it a girl? I can see that look in your eyes!” You were giddy, always excited about any kind of gossip. “Who is she? I want all the details!” You leaned forward, resting your head in your hands.
His LED flashed yellow before he spoke. “I guess it is about a girl.” He smiled softly, looking down at his hands as he continued. “She’s sweet, and strong, and very...independent. The most beautiful woman I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. His face softened into one of longing and adoration. “She’s been gone for a while, but she’s never left my mind.” He smirked looking up at you, though his expression fell as he saw yours. Your eyes had grown dark and your smile was bittersweet. You felt your heart ache as you saw how much he loved this woman.
“I’m really happy for you, Connor.” You faked a smile, a lump catching in your throat as you fought back tears. “When do we get to meet her?” You asked, taking a deep, shaky breath.
“You already have.” Connor stood up, placing himself between your legs as you sat on his desk. “She’s you.” He whispered, his soft synthetic lips pressing against yours in a gentle kiss. It took you a moment to process before you pressed back into the passionate kiss, weaving your fingers through his soft brown hair.
“Oh, get a room you two!” Hank’s voice forced you to break the kiss, a dark crimson staining your face. When you looked over, you saw he had a content smirk on his face as he typed away on his computer.
It took you a moment to calm yourself from the sudden emotional roller coaster before you could turn back to Connor. He looked at you with the same look of adoration he’d had a moment ago. “So,” he started, “who’s the lucky android you have a crush on?”
