Truth of Medusa.
Medusa, originally one of 3 sorceress sisters, was known as unspeakably beautiful. What’s rarely talked about is that Poseidon had raped her on the floor of one of Athena’s temples. As it was 800 B.C, she was slut shamed. Athena did not look to Poseidon to be punished, Yet to Medusa. Cursing her to become an old hag with hair of serpents. Never again to be looked upon, for her look would turn any living thing to stone
Medusa’s pain was never acknowledged, nor allowed to be seen. She was punished and blamed. By not only her rapists lover, but the goddess she served. As a high priestess. She was condemned to be a monster. When in fact she was not, she was a tortured soul. In that time, scared, hurt. Secluded and always alone. She turned angry. Rightfully so. As time goes on and the world is starting to change. We’re able to understand. I believe this new understanding should be passed on, for it could change how we all understand and view this world. Not just in mythology, but everything in our history. For all it’s faults, and learn. We can be better, we will be better. First, we have to accept the wrong we did.
