Summary: What makes a monster and what makes a hero? The question seems so simple, Link has never had any reason to think about it. But as he chases an enemy with mysterious intentions across Hyrule, he finds the question concerns him more and more.

The thing surged out from the dark, dragging the dark with it, and attacked, sword raised. Link barely got his own blade up in time to block. He was holding the shield Purah had made him in reserve, for now, but he would be ready in case this thing got its hands on him.
The puppet fought with a silent, vicious implacability. If Purah's trap really had almost killed it, there was no sign of that now. It was faster than it had been, stronger.
So was Link. They clashed, over and over, the fight growing more brutal as it became clear how evenly matched they were and each sought some small advantage. The puppet kicked Link through a pile of lumber, readied by the construction crews. Link peppered it with arrows of all kinds. The puppet nicked Link with its unholy sword and Link nicked it with his holy one and both wounds steamed and hissed.
