2019 has been a very good year for metal. it has never been my thing although I appreciate it.
I have been noticing a lot of influences from metal in various genres, from what started as a kind of cloud rap for Bones that clearly introduced metal sounds, the obvious in Ghostmane, but also look at what Poppy, Grimes also has a lot of influences or more like affinities; Rina Sawayama recently released a song with some metal sound, etc etc etc
I guess the metal scene itself has been also feeding off the new sounds and new people are making things differently, and that’s why I think it will gain a wider popularity in 2020.
There’s always a vibe in the air and there has been a dark wave that has been expressing itself through several genres like witch house, some dark electro like Health, Pictureplane; the weird somewhat joyful sadness of Lil Peep, or undefined artists like Wicca Phase String Eternal.
A lot of imagery and visuals emerged in relation with those styles of music, but you can remember how things used to be more ‘internet based’ with all the fresh vaporwave aesthetic, and goth fonts and an interest in old metal groups have been progressively gaining force, with satanic-inspired, occult, and wiccan inspiration.
All of that vibe is there and we will be seeing a gold era of metal I believe, as the dominating genre in terms of influence. The years of rap, pop, and even super cyber pop like PC Music will still be there but I think metal will be the genre that embodies the intensities of the new year -that already has began if we know the lunar-solar calendar like the Coligny-.
Anyway, let’s enjoy this song with the lyrics that we imagine!
