Winslow Homer - Breezing Up was the capstone of Homer's Gloucester paintings, 1873 Winslow Homer (1836-1910) is an American landscape and seascape painter and printmaker. He is mostly self taught. Homer began his career as a comercial artist. He worked as an artist correspondent during the American Civil War. Homer loved to paint marine subjects.

Rocklawn was the summer house of the Stoddard Family with the gardens created on a hillside overlooking the ocean at Bass Rocks. Fletcher Steele designed the gardens in the 1930s. The Stoddards were friends with my Great Aunt Marjorie and she stayed at this house many summers in the forties and fifties.
