You’re certainly welcome to draw stuff inspired by my redesigns (even if I consider them more like subtle cosmetic changes rather than redesign-redesigns, compared to how wet n wild some artists get with them). Hey, thanks for the Shatner breakdown post. I think it's really helpful for new people getting into the trek fandom (like myself, hah) to have references to the real world context of the shows. Its difficult catching up to a 40+ year old fandom, posts like this help a lot of things irl make sense.

I feel like a lot of us stumbled across TOS on Netflix, or we discovered it through tumblr mutuals, or we saw it referenced in pop-culture somewhere and wanted to know what all of the hype was about. So we come into this fandom (or series of fandoms, if we’re talking about Trek at large) and more-or-less unaware of these things.

I myself didn’t learn about the Shatner Situation until a few months ago, when I saw someone reference what happened with Autism Speaks. I don’t really follow news about actors from any fandom - never had - so it came as a surprise to me. I made a shitpost about it (harrison ford saying “baby boy” to jim kirk and “evil” to shatner out of costume) that got more attention than I expected, and people passed along what they knew about him to me. I did additional research after that and realized that he’s always been terrible.

And then of course the bi kirk thing sort of blew up, and for a lot of people that was the first red flag - because they hadn’t heard about the other things he’s said and done. And others hadn’t even heard of the bi kirk thing, so for a lot of people this came out of left field. 

Because as me and others have pointed out, Jim Kirk is the antithesis of who Shatner is as a person. He’s kind, he’s compassionate, he’s a proponent of feminism and equality - just a genuinely good and wholesome character. And it’s baffling that someone like Shatner could not only play such a character, but genuinely believe that he is that character. I’ve joked before that if Jim Kirk was real - suddenly materialized into our world - he would punch Shatner in the face without hesitation.

Hi! Do you know if anyone is running an equivalent blog for art? I would love to participate, but I'd feel more comfortable drawing a piece instead of writing.

Hi! I do not know about anyone running a purely art bang, or reverse bang, at this time.

If you’d like to work with a writer, in a couple of weeks, starting September 10th, sign-ups for artists will open up. Artists will select from a list of fics that are being written, and will be paired with a writer to create a companion piece to their fic.

I do hope you will participate, as I think it will be a lot of fun :)
