Dishonorable discharge: what got you into the series (either the show or the books or both)?

basically i stumbled across the author of another book series i love and the creator of one of my favourite podcasts both praising the expanse within like a week of one another and i went "okay, so that's two creators whose work i admire talking abt this series, i should probably check it out"

Pur’n’Kleen: if you were part of The Expanse universe, what do you think your occupation would be? What would you want it to be?

oh man i would NOT pass up the opportunity to work on a spaceship, even if it was only a freighter or smth. i would love to be a pilot, which i know is rich coming from someone who hates driving, but the REASON i hate driving is bc you have to be constantly aware of every other car and pedestrian on the road and you're constantly one mistake away from causing an accident and that's not sth i'd have to worry about much while piloting a spaceship in empty space. or alternatively i think i’d enjoy being the resident ship medic :0

Scopuli: was there a detail, moment or scene in the series that you found really teriffying?

The initial outbreak on Eros as well as the hybrids in book 2 freaked me out quite a bit because i just Really, Really do not like zombies kdfjng

ahhh, please don’t tell me this is about Naomi going behind Jim’s back and giving the protomolecule to Fred

it was, yeah

like i had to explain 1k times that I thought Naomi giving Fred the sample was the right thing to do but that a) deceiving Holden for weeks and b) telling him once he’d almost died were like bad Holden wasn’t the only one who did something hurtful here

like Holden making Naomi feel she couldn’t be honest about her feelings was bad, Naomi going against the vote was bad, Naomi lying was bad, Holden’s obsession with eradicating the protomolecule because of his trauma was bad, Naomi telling Holden only once he’d almost died leading him to believe she never planned to tell him and only did because of guilt at his not knowing was bad, Holden snapping at her and lashing out at her was bad. It was complicated and full of BAD it wasn’t just one of them it was both of them. and i’m so glad they show actually showed them talking about it because it was important to see them talk it out and get everything on the table (though i wish we saw MORE of that still but they gave us more than i expected)

I love Naomi and i agreed with her but i’m not going to pretend that lying to a partner is okay and justified when it’s tied into trauma, and I had a lot to say about how the fandom treated (re: completely ignored or trivialized) Holden’s trauma to begin with, and then continued to trivialize it because they saw Naomi’s actions as the right ones and thus slammed him for being angry at her. he wasn’t as angry that she gave it up as much as he was hurt she lied to him about destroying it right in front of him and had every opportunity to tell him and didn’t until he almost died

he was hurt. and i think that’s uh pretty justified. they were both right. they were both wrong. it’s never as clean and simple as fandom wants it to be. and it doesn’t always have to be “hate” it can just be “i agree with her but i don’t like how she did it” because i don’t hate Naomi lmfao but she hurt Holden and i think it’s fair to acknowledge that as well, without thinking she deserves getting yelled at. this was also a plot point that didn’t exist in the books so i was still wrapping my head around it and trying to figure out how it would play out and how i felt about it

i had JUST had a really traumatizing experience around lying. i was sensitive to it. it was shitty to see the fandom slamming holden for being upset over being lied to. and i was vagueblogged about it lmfao

i’m just glad it’s over now because it was a bad time in the fandom for me.

💡 Tell me a headcanon (and who you wish would write it)?

I don’t know if I can think of any headcanons I have that I haven’t written? If I had ideas for more fics I would write them myself but regrettably I’ve been running out of them. But whatever it is the answer to who should write it is @pig-wings because i love it when pig-wings writes things

In general though what i would like to see more of in this fandom (from anyone) is anything Naomi-centric (particularly Nolden, Naomi/Amos, or Naomi/Amos/Holden) that is centered around Naomi’s happiness and fulfillment (I am trying this with Room For Three but I do tend default to Holden’s perspective because I’ve grown comfortable with it)

Set during Book 1: Leviathan Wakes. As the Rocinante sets off for Eros on a rescue mission, Naomi’s imagination gets away from her. (or, Naomi is horny AF, Holden is a himbo, but they end up catching ~*feelings*~)
