Friends who have experience with diabetic cats- when you did a glucose check, did you do the ear or the paw? Did you do it by hand or use the device? Reasons why? I was supposed to get a reading 4 hours after her shot this morning for the vet. Rather than napping, Bug decided the 4 hour mark was an excellent time to want to play, drink from the sink, be squirrelly and overall suspicious of me (she’s pretty suspicious of me in general these days, hahaha). So I was not successful. Vet said not to stress and just try again tonight or over the weekend. Thing is, it has to be at 11:30 am or pm, and if I can’t pull it off I have to take her in to do it and reeeeeally need to not take off more work. This whole situation isn’t ideal for a chronic over-thinker like yours truly. I’ve watched so many videos. I even watched a friend do it to their cat. guess whomst didnt test their sugar for like 2 weeks cos the low battery symbol on their glucose meter was flashing only to discover when they finally overcame avoidance mode that the battery was available to purchase for three (3) dollars from the nearest supermarket

so one of my special interests is 80s/90s design and tech, and i saw this vintage glucose meter for cheap on ebay near me and Had to buy it cos it so perfectly fused two of my special interests of retro tech and diabetes/blood sugar stuff. it’s been thoroughly disinfected (once by the previous owner and once by me just in case) and i have no intention of actually using it to test my sugars (they probably havent made strips for it for like 20-30 years anyway) but it was such a cool historical piece i had to get it.

i accidentally stabbed my finger with the lancet while i was getting my lancing device ready and decided fuck it and just did the glucose test on that and i texted two friends about it and they both texted back ‘improvise adapt overcome’ at basically the exact same time

look what arrived!! my new glucose testing kit. everything inside i already owned except for the green container (which has cleansing wipes in it), just the bag itself is new. its super cute and bigger than my old one (which was just a basic plain black one that came with my metre) so i can fit a lot more in, but its not overly bulky. plus it arrived the day after i ordered it and was nice and affordable. overall we stan. pancreas crimes but make it cute 💁‍♂️
