Why is Riley and Maya not dating yet?? Like, I don't know if it's just the actors, but, just look at how they look at each other!!! They look like they just saw a frickin sunshine in a midst of a snowstorm, whenever they look at each other. How is this just platonic??? Why??? It, being a Disney channel show does not really give me an acceptable reason not to believe that they're in love with each other.. It's not even the same how they look at Lucas. WHAT THE HELL GMW???

Yeah, I try not to let myself hope that Rilaya will actually happen, but I haven’t really been able to stop myself ever since Girl Meets Game Night back in season 1. And I try to be fair in allowing for the possibility that they’re platonic, but it looks hella gay from where I’m sitting.

You're right about the heteronormativity because I showed my cousin (who's previously only seen one episode) the whole trilogy and she said that it seemed like Riley and Maya are so confused because they have feelings for each other. And that's probably the most unbias opinion because she doesn't even watch the show. Honestly it's truly insulting that the writers of one of the greatest shows that defined the 90's would even pull this heteronormativity crap on us.

BMW was pretty hetero too. Frequently the fact that Cory and Shawn acted so gay was the punchline of the joke. They seem to be playing Riley and Maya a little more sincerely. I go back and forth on whether I think they will eventually go there with Rilaya or I think they’re a bunch of yellow-bellied, heteronormative hacks, who can’t help but kowtow to the safe, the easy, the formulaic, and the boring. What I’ve been thinking lately is that if the writers aren’t at least considering the idea of making Riley and Maya a thing, then their relationship is some extremely well-crafted bait.

The one thing I've noticed is that they mentioned that Riley and Lucas are so alike. In a relationship sense, that's not a good thing. Yes, you can have things in common but being so much alike is like dating yourself. That's why Cory and Topanga work as a couple. Cory is very exaggerated and silly and Topanga is understanding and stern but they love each other no matter what and they will do anything for their love one, to make them feel good. Does that remind you of someone?

Common interests are important, of course, but it takes more than that to build a lasting relationship.

Okay, wait, so, is Maya dating Lucas or is Riley dating Lucas? I'm kinda confused cuz I never really pay attention to the show, so I thought that Riley and Maya were kinda like into each other or something(ofc not it's Disney lol) and then came Lucas which confused me, and I had to search them up here on tumblr which was a bad idea cuz it confused me more.

Well, I know a little over 2,000 people who think that Riley and Maya are into each other.

But in terms of officially canonized canon: Maya pretended to both go out with and break up with Lucas for about 30 seconds when they first met, Lucas and Riley had a formulaic building heterosexual romance for most of season 1, Maya and Lucas had a teasing and quasi-antagonistic friendship, meanwhile Riley and Maya were always loving and supportive of each other, they were also low-key flirtatious sometimes, then they started paralleling Riley's parents - y'know...Cory and Topanga, Lucas and Riley were too timid to ask each other out so Maya asked Lucas out to give them both a push, Riley went out with Lucas for a bit, they shared one kiss, after that they were awkward, Riley declared a break up to protect the friendship, Maya and Lucas got voted best couple by their classmates, all three of them and some others attended a semi-formal dance together as a group, Maya and Lucas started getting weird around each other, Maya couldn’t bear to watch Lucas ride a bull, Riley interpreted this as Maya having feelings for Lucas, Riley declared Lucas her brother, Lucas and Maya almost kissed, Maya has said that she “likes” Lucas, Maya hasn’t said much else about how she feels, Lucas hasn't said anything definitive about his feelings, Maya and Lucas are currently dating, Maya and Lucas are currently paralleling Riley and Lucas in their extreme awkwardness, Lucas told Riley he wasn’t her brother, Riley still has some feelings for Lucas, Riley and Maya sat together and decided that neither one of them knows anything, in determining the one thing they do know they referenced the rings they wear that Riley gave as a gift for Maya’s 14th birthday, and the latest episode ended with the two of them holding hands and interlocking their fingers while once again making severe heart eyes at each other.

Hmmm. I didn’t quite get that from it. I mean, I’m not rooting for them in any way, but Texas 3 actually seemed pretty heavily pro-R*cas to me.

So, at the end of it all, who's holding hands? Interlocking fingers? Is it awkward for them? Who fits together more effortlessly than any other pairing? What's the one thing they know? Who's referencing their Claddagh rings? Who's in the BAE window together?

Heteronormativity is literally the ONLY reason these two aren't already dating. Because you know if one of them were a boy, it would be the OBVIOUS CHOICE. Wake up and smell the soul mates!
