(You called me sweetheart, I might just die now.) I believe that characters are flexible and that there's no need to just focus on two or three characteristics of that char, you just have to make sure that they're still recognisable if you remove their name when you read, ya feel me? So, yeah, idk where exactly I was going with this, just that I like fics that stretch the characters and mold them and it's still believable and not meh-ish :3 (the A+++ writers are what I like to read basically)
(oh shucks you~) i'm actually surprisingly flexible when it comes to characterization, because i'm a firm believer that AUs are allowed to have some sort of space to stretch out and see what those characters are made of. not every fic holds the same traumatic backstory that canon!verse has, which probably gives said character no reason to react to certain situations as they would do in a canon scenario. good characterization, for me, is being able to manipulate and change an entire character while keeping their core exactly the same. problem is, a lot of writers fail to grasp what the core of these characters actually are.
/RANTS ENDLESSLY
it's a very thin line between a molded character and downright occ-ness, tho. don't get me wrong.
