Throughout the 2020 pandemic I have been saying #goalsarenotcanceled , but LOVE, SUPPORT, and BEING A GOOD HUMAN are also not canceled. The silver lining is with no medals to run for, runners have found their purpose and voice. Like @mikesaes , Founder of @bridgerunners would said in his post from February 20th, “glad to be part of something worth more than medals.” So, thank you @omgvics for giving birth to @chinatownrunners today. Yoga Teacher Attempts To Run Her Best Half Marathon During A Pandemic While we wait for the results, here’s one. My wife, @pineapple.yogi and I were set to run the @berlinmarathon this year. It would have been our second marathon major together (@bostonmarathon being our first) and my fourth. Since the race got canceled, my wife set a goal of running her best half marathon on the day of the @nycmarathon . I designed a custom training program around her teaching schedule and coached her in 13 weeks. We were also grateful to lock down @darshenanigans to support her on bike, @adamlaino , @javie.gomez , and myself supporting her on foot, and @dr.stanbazile supporting her in spirit. The day and the route was set - an out and back on the westside highway in Manhattan. It wasn’t ideal since she had to dodge walkers, other runners, bikers, baby carriages, etc., ran into unforeseen road blocks, and had to battle the high winds coming from the south in the second half of her “race”, but she came out on top finishing in 1:35:23 - a new personal best! Alright, let’s be real. Waking up five in the morning and throwing on a singlet to run half of my 26.2 miles in the 50 degree darkness is not the fun part. But, these moments from the second part are. Major shoutouts to my wife, @pineapple.yogi first and foremost for biking all the way into Manhattan with hydration and escorting me all the way back to Brooklyn even though she had to TEACH a yoga class that morning. To @jazzybklyn for taking the train all the way up to the Bronx to run the last 16 MILES with me. To @jgwessler for jumping in for a couple of miles after he RACED a 5K on Randall’s Island and scooped up a post race goodie bag for me. To one of my best buds, Larry for taking Landon out in his little tracksuit to hand out those power up high fives! They really work! And to everyone who tried to track me (even though the NYRR Racing app didn’t work) and cheered me on! Who Am I I was recently asked: who are you, what you do, how you train, and things you're proud of? I am a human, son, brother, husband, friend, runner, and coach. I love and support my family and friends unconditionally and coach everyday people to start running properly all the way to completing marathons. I meditate, read, run, and do push ups consistently. I’m proud of running injury-free since I started. I’m proud of completing 3 of the 6 World Marathon Majors, I’m proud of being able to complete a marathon in 3 hours, I’m proud of qualifying for the @bostonmararhon , and I’m proud of quitting my full time job life and health insurance and 401k match to help people start running and run better. >>Your turn.
