This piece was one out of twenty similar small drinking vessels, the result of a speed exercise. The point is to make a certain number of pieces in a given time (here twenty in two hours), from the wedging of the clay into small 250g balls to the throwing of the pieces. This acts as training for the French final exam to get the throwing certification.
Two glazes were applied after the first firing; a black one on the inside and upper two thirds of the piece, and then a white one on the lower two thirds. Their superposition in the middle creates a mottled golden-yellow colour.
