You know what? I don't think I fully processed the terrible loss that was the GoComics archive until right the fuck now. Bc what do you mean the best and easiest website for accessing full catalogs of comics was overtaken by goddamn subscription culture? It was one of the only websites that didn't hide behind a goddamn paywall, and it sold out.
Fuck this greed.
Ok, Today is the Day!
GoComics recently made an annoucnement that the website would be changing on April 1st, 2025 and now we get to see it!
Science Truly is Amazing!
But in all seriousness the ui was somewhat different and the shade of blue was darker, but most notably that only Paid Subscribers can look at a comic's archive (and during my attempt to circumvent this, i might have crashed the site 😬)
What this will mean for NoThoughtsGarf: I'm not sure. I have other sources to get the comics, but as of now, i believe that every edit we've made effectively has a broken link (I'm not going to ask y'all to get Premium to restore SEEING THE COMIC). I still have a few comics queued but the links arent changed yet.
I plan on switching to either Garfield.Fandom.com or pt.jikos.cz/garfield/. But i'm going to ask for some audience participation here and if you have any suggestions for how we move forward please say so! Someplace to link the comics to that is 1) Not locked behind a paywall, 2) Not flooded with ads, 3) Easy and safe to link to
Worst April Fools Update I've ever seen >:l
... so GoComics spent weeks hyping a big amazing spectacular new update that was going to hit on April 1st.
Exciting news: At the beginning of April you’ll be introduced to a brand-new GoComics with a host of upgraded features and improved functionality—and more will roll out throughout 2025!
I checked it today, and this fantastic update turned out to be (a) making the ads bigger so the comic only takes up half the page, and (b) locking their archives (formerly unlimited) behind a paywall. You can only read 14 days back in the archive without subscribing.
Nowhere in their announcement is the second thing mentioned (let alone the first).
