Okay, I'm a little late for the actual Winter Solstice, BUT somehow barely made it in time for Christmas Day! When I was out for a run yesterday morning I had this idea flash in my mind, so I rushed yesterday and today to whip out this artwork! It is always SO nice when inspiration is flowing.

This piece is very much inspired by the holiday traditions in Scandinavia, and specifically Sweden since that's where I am

God Jul! Tanngrisnir (teeth grinder") is one of goats who pull the chariot of Thor in Norse mythology. This myth may have filtered down into The Yule Goat. A scary costume worn by Scandanavian carolers (Krampus?) A Swedish invisible spirit that would check on holiday preparations. And in modern Scandinavia, a popular Christmas ornament. Merry Christmas!

Happy Yule to all my followers! Today marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. However, the days will now become longer. This was important for agrarian societies who eagerly awaited the return of the sun. Yule celebrates the importance of this celestial event. It’s an old ritual to welcome back the sun, to give hope that the harsh winter will soon be at an end, and a way to come together as a community to break the boredom of long winter nights.
