A people pleaser or a God pleaser...?
"Am I now trying to get people to think well of me? Or do I want God to think well of me?...Do you think I am trying to make people accept me? No, God is the one I am trying to please. Am I trying to please people? If I wanted to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ." Galatians 1:10 (NIRV, NCV)
Do you ever find yourself changing things about yourself to please people, so they’ll like you? Paul said, "If I were trying to be popular with people, I would not now be an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ". You can’t always be a people pleaser and a God pleaser. Which would you rather be? Social media tells us what we are supposed to look like, who we’re supposed to want to be like; and the worst of it is, what we’re supposed to look like and who we’re supposed to be like changes with the tides of social media. Paul didn’t care what people thought, only what God thought and he went on to be the greatest apostle in history. The thing is, trying to please people and be accepted by them can never bring happiness, because each person you meet will want you to be something different, just to suit them. Friend, God made you unique for a reason, with gifts and strengths that only you have. You were not a mistake. Yeah, you’re human and so not perfect, but, as Joyce Meyer says, “God knew what He was getting when He made you” and He made you anyway and loved you even before you were born. Be yourself (you're the only YOU there is!) - God loves you just the way you are. Surround yourself with people who think you're great and forget the rest! “If your heart is to please God, God will never give up on you if you don't give up on Him. And so, you have to take a chance on losing some of those friendships or some of those people out of your life, and you have to be okay with that because when push comes to shove, what you need is God, not everybody else.” —Joyce Meyer. PRAYER: Lord, please help me to be myself, no matter what others think of me. Free me to be the me You created with such love. Give me the strength to follow you and be in agreement with You, because I know You only want what’s best for me; then I can have the peace that only You can give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
