Let’s face it, God doesn’t always call us to do things that are easy.
If anything, it’s actually the opposite.
What God calls us to do is often uncomfortable, foreign, and hard. But the thing is, we only see the task that is at hand: God’s view is infinitely bigger.
When God calls us to do something, it’s not just to do it, like how a parent tells us to clean your room. God calls us to do what is in His will because, by doing so, we will grow closer to Him.
That’s God’s entire goal: to draw us close to Himself. God’s plan is to mold us into the image of His Son, and to have be His image bearers in this dark, horrible world. And we can’t do that if we don’t draw closer to Him. We can’t do that if we don’t get to know Him through our obedience.
Obedience is what draws us closer to the Lord, for it reflects His character. Jesus remained obedient to the Father to the very end, never once questioning where He was sending Him, or why. Jesus had complete trust in the Father, knowing that whatever He called Him to do was for a greater purpose. Jesus’ obedience to His Father led to the most famous and amazing miracles of the Bible; Jesus walking on water, the raising of Lazurus, and of course, His resurrection.
What we see and what God sees could not be more different, even if we are looking at the same thing. We see an obstacle or a huge task. God sees the stage upon which He can display His glory.
We see an ocean, God sees an ocean parted and a story that’ll give countless generations hope in His name. We see a sickness, God sees a sickness cured and the worship of His name as a result. We see a cross, an instrument of torture. God sees the punishment of our sin, the resurrection of His Son from the dead, and our reconciliation to God through Him.
This is why, as Christians, we must train ourselves to view things through Gods eyes whenever we can. By doing so, we begin to trust more in His character, and in turn, begin to adopt it as our own.
There will obviously be times when we can’t do this. There will be times where we just can’t see how God can work through a current situation, or how God can use what He’s calling us to do. This is why it’s equally important to build our faith muscles.
Athletes train their bodies, we are called to train our faith. It’s through tough situations that we are fixed to trust in God’s character, without seeing how things will play out. If are able to do so, then we wouldn’t be trusting in God, now would we? God divested compete and utter trust in Him, a trust that reflects His Son’s. And it’s through situations like these where He works that attribute of Jesus’ character in us. When God pulls us through, our faith in Him will grow, and our faithlessness will be exposed to His amazing light.
God’s ultimate aim is make us like His Son; perfect, blameless, and righteous before Him. This obviously will not be completed on earth, but it’s where a majority of the work takes place. And it’s through tough callings and uncomfortable situations that He chooses to do His work. Our part is trust and obey the voice of the Lord, allowing this time to build up our faith in Him, and our reliance on Him.
