Gnome/Gnisle Lore:
- gnisle are the halfling equivalent in God’s fall. Gnome’s are the same exact species of person as gnisle, the only major difference between them being that Gnome is the word all gnisle use to refer to anyone who lives above ground (as gnisle live below the surface of the world)
- scholar’s believe they are distant distant relative of modern burrowing rodents like rats, mice, and moles
- their hands resemble rat peets, and they grow a coarse fur starting at their navel and ends at the tops of their feet. Its common as well for said fur to grow up farther up their spines (usually ends around shoulder blade height, but can dip as low as below the tail bones)
- their feet also resemble a rats foot, but far less pronounced. If the graph is rat appendage to human appendage the hands are closer to the rat side while the feet are closer to the human side
- they naturally have long, thin tails with or without fur depending on where the hair on their back starts. Its customary for gnomes to dock their tails to from 1.5 feet long to about 4-5 inches long as they tend to get in the way or stepped on by careless people and animals. Gnisle use their tails like a guiding rope in dark caves and let them grow to their full lengths
- if a gnisle leaves the caves tunnels and mines they call home for the surface permanently they become gnome
- they have rather poor eyesight, gnomes often wear glasses or goggles to help them see better. Gnisle have tactile and auditory landmarks and directions so they dont get lost underground.
- its a common myth that gnisle and gnomes can sense the vibrations in the earth
Important Elf Lore
- the reason there’s magic in the world comes from the ancient humans hunting and eating the fallen Fae Deer
- Fae Deer evolved rapidly (over the course of about 50 of the 100 lifetimes they’ve been on the world) to be the elves we see now. Their latent fairy magic aided in speeding up what otherwise would’ve taken millions, if not billions of years
- elven livespan is exactly 1000 years, as all fae live exactly 1000 years from birth -> natural death
- part of elven evolution was the ability to eat and digest grains and vegetation, as fae are otherwise all obligate carnivores. Everything from the fae people to the prey animals are obligate carnivores in the fae bubble. Their teeth are structured similarly to cats, tho refitted to fit inside a humanish shaped skull
Other Miscellaneous Lore:
- the only difference between gnomes and halflings are purely cultural. They are the same species of people but one part of the population primarily lives underground and the other part does not
- dwarfism exists in all species so there isn’t a typical fantasy dwarf race in the gods fall universe
- there are true and false dragons and unicorns present on the world. True dragons and unicorns are the direct children of the gods bahamut and tiamat directly, false dragons and unicorns are any born NOT of bahamut and tiamat. Their grandchildren aren’t even considered true dragons or unicorns.
- Legend says that the first Drathe (dragonborn) was born of a human having a long term sexual relationship with the god bahamut and was therefore a true dragon by definition.
- scholars believe there is a species of half human half tiamat unicorn hybrids somewhere, as they would be just as reclusive as their non-hybrid counterparts
Important notes on elf lore:
Elves are the direct descendants of a species of fae deer that fell sometime around 100,000 years ago.
Due to their fae roots elves have the longest lifespan on the planet, easily living to be 1000 years old on average. Their extended lifespans and relatively short history (comparatively) means they have gone through a rapid evolution to adapt to the physical bubble.
Part of their rapid evolution was developing the ability to digest plant matter as all fae are obligate carnivores, including the prey species. Modern elves are now comfortably omnivorous like most other humanoids on the planar bubble.
Sometimes they’re born with vestigial tails or the ability to grow antlers. Antlers follow a typical shed cycle and grow from puberty until death.
Elves are considered fully grown adults around 50 years old (they age at around half the rate as humans) but culturally aren’t seen as well rounded and mature individuals until they’re around 300.
It’s common for elves to change their names as they become adults, most cycling through two-four different names in their life times.
Elves are the shortest of the non-dwarf races (? I dont have a better word for it) averaging in heights between 4 foot 8 inches and 4 foot 11 inches. The tallest recorded elf was 5 foot 2 inches tall. The famed Lady Amandine was in the 99.5th percentile for height being 5 feet tall exactly during her life.
