Honestly, all this time, I struggled praying for the world. My pastor on Sundays would tell us to pray for the different parts of the world that are suffering, but I did not wholeheartedly pray because I could not relate. I know. I am very selfish with my prayers.
Now that this coronavirus hit, I am left feeling both hopeless and hopeful. Can my mere prayer help in this crisis? I guess all this time I have been thinking of prayer as voting during election. I felt as if I was just a small person trying to pray for the world and that just seemed a litte impossible in my mind.
However, I feel as if there is nothing else I can do right now. I can think and be sad about all the situations happening not only in the United States but the rest of the world. Or, I can be praying. For God told us in Matthew 7:7 that “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Now that this pandemic has occurred. My eyes are finally open. Perhaps it is because all the distractions of the world is removed and I am able to spend more time in my own thoughts and my own relationship with God. I finally have the desire to pray for the world because this pandemic cannot be resolved by just the United States recovering. All countries have to come together and work together to make this come to an end. Just because one country is doing better or completely healed does not mean this battle with the pandemic is won. The other countries still suffering can bring the virus over again.
Thus, perhaps God is trying to teach us how to work together. To stop living such independent lives for we are not called to that lifestyle. It is not about ME, ME, ME but Him, Him, Him! So, may we all come together in prayer. Wherever we are in this world. May we pray for the world to overcome this pandemic and set our eyes upon the LORD for He is deserving of our attention and praise. To those friends and family members in our lives that are feeling hopeless, may we all fill them with hope that comes from Jesus Christ who has already won the battle. May we all become a shining light in this even more darkened world.
