Classic Lit Review- Far From the Madding Crowd

Title: Far From the Madding Crowd

Author: Thomas Hardy

Pages: 465

Rating: 4/5

Plot: This follows the story of Bathsheba Everdene inheriting a farm and her encounters with three suitors: Shepherd Gabriel Oak, Farmer Boldwood, and Soldier Francis Troy. 

Interest: I had tried to read this book last year and couldn’t get that far, but I started again because I saw an ad for the movie from 2015. 

Favorite Character: Beside my obvious love for Bathsheba, Gabriel Oak was my favorite character because out of all the suitors he loved her first, but also had a great respect for her and didn’t try to use her or try to make her a housewife. 

Favorite Quote: “Sometimes I shrink from your knowing what I have felt for you, and sometimes I am distressed that all of it you never will know.”

Feelings at the End:This book had me hooked with the whole love triangle/square thing. There were parts that had me screaming and parts that left me shocked. I disliked every character at least at some point, but most of them redeem themselves. The end to this journey fits perfectly. 

Pros: The way the book is written is easy to read, a strong woman in charge, lots of interesting characters to follow, an exciting and sometimes devastating story. 

Cons: Since this book was written in 1874, there’s a struggle of gender and the role of a woman, but I think it also shows in Bathsheba’s character how one can rise above and not let men decide her life. 

P.S. The movie is also great! It omits certain scenes, but it’s still fabulous!

Godzilla Review~

I just got back from watching Godzilla: King of Monsters and it was really fucking good! The Kaiju action was spectacular and full of action and twists. It was interesting to see who stayed loyal and who changed sides through the movie, both for the kaiju and the humans. Also the inclusion of the Oxygen-Destroyer weapon actually made me gasp because it was such a nice throwback to the original 1954 Godzilla and it had me grinning like a fool. And I mean, yeah, critics have a fair point when they said the human plot line wasn’t all that spectacular but it was by no means bad. But my god(zilla), Mothra was such a badass queen and I’ve never been more in love so she alone made the whole movie more than worth my time. Overall, I loved all the scenes with the “Titans” and can’t wait to watch the movie again.

Edit: oh yeah and I forgot to mention my favorite part! In the end credits all of the Titans names appear on the cast list with either “himself” or “herself” under who was plays them which I thought was hella cute. Plus there’s an end credit scene so make sure you stay (which shouldn’t be too hard because Blue Oyster Cults song Godzilla is the first end song that plays and it’s a bop)

Well, that’s that. The final entry to the Godzilla anime series has come and gone. Honestly, what i have to say about this is nearly the same as the previous entries. 

The characters, for the most part are still boring. The pacing still sucks. Most of the time is spent with the human characters yelling at each other and acting like William shatner in a dramatic role. 

 What had me excited for this entry, was of course, King Ghidorah. It wasn’t was i expected. He is very different in this entry as you can see from the image attached to this short review. It’s an interesting design for sure. I don’t hate nor love it. I’m just in the middle. ON the one hand, it’s unique and not a bad thought. The other hand though, i really wanted to see something more old school. 

I understand they were going for a different approach for this series. The ending is confusing if you don’t pay attention to what is said by the lead character. Sort of anti-climactic if you ask me. 

Honestly, that’s all i have to say about Godzilla: The planet eater. Same issues as before. Only thing i really enjoyed was King Ghidorah making his entrance. Aside from that, the characters are bland, pacing is very slow and sleep inducing. I’m still not too crazy about the animation style. 

So for the final entry to the Godzilla anime series, i give it a 5/10.

Hopefully the next animated adventure for the Big G is alot more fun then this was.
