This was a close matchup. Ultimately, the anise and licorice notes in the Remus Repeal Reserve Batch 1 kept it from advancing. But it had a fighter’s chance. I really had no idea who would win until the last sip. The cherry frosting/ cherry yeast donut / cherry tobacco of Wild Turkey Master’s Keep 17 Year BIB carried it to victory. I can still taste the frosting as I type. And the oak. Wild Turkey Master’s Keep 17 Year BIB Is a mild bourbon, especially for a 17 year 100 proofer. I suspect that Vegas is going to keep lowering the spread for this bourbon, but it moves on to the Sweet 16.

I just don’t really dig anise. But Remus Repeal Reserve Batch 1 is an elite bourbon. And a fucking steal. A blend of 14 and 15 year bourbons for $80? That is ludicrously cheap in today’s market. If New Riff, Barrel, Smoke Wagon, or Boone County bottled this Remus bourbon; they could easily charge taters $250 a bottle and it would it sell out before it hit the shelves.

This Wild Turkey Master’s Keep 17 Year BIB is sneaky. Smooth. Like Tayshaun Prince. It’s tall. Gangly. Laid back. Looks soft. But it can drain threes. Block shots with minimal energy expended. And when need be, it can ram a left handed dunk down your fucking throat. Sociology majors of the world unite!

Really wish Troy would use these kind of vocals more in Mastodon. I love how he sounds
