Nonbinary is a term used to describe someone whose gender identity is neither male nor female and who identify themselves differently, due to the restrictions and social norms that come with being regarded as "male" or "female".
Gender is defined as the way you feel, the way in your head and in your heart that you want to be identified. Sex is what you’re assigned at birth, after the doctor pulls you out, based on your bodily characteristics. It is common for these two terms to become confused. Gender can be completely separate from the sex you’ve been assigned at birth. This is how trans people identify, for example. What’s really interesting about gender and sexuality is that beyond a few basics, the information is completely up to you to interpret. That’s the best thing about gender: it’s free, flexible and completely yours to decide.
