On my period rn, where are the filthy bloody smutty fics at ?
if you’re reading this PLEASE GIVE ME A GLASS FOOD STORAGE CONTAINER RECOMMENDATION
the way that you portray jon as both darker skinned and very dominant/animalistic in your recent art as opposed to ed who you portray as lighter skinned and very submissive/angelic kind of bothers me. you don't have to reply to this ask publicly, or at all, but i do think you should take a moment to examine what compels you to do that because it ultimately feeds into negative stereotypes about those with darker skin.
(to be clear this is also not a request for the art to be taken down - that's at your own discretion, it's your art.)
You've got a good point. I've thought about it before and worried that it might come off or read in that way 🤔
Tbh I've only started drawing Jonathan as darker skin because to my logic he used to live in a hotter area and worked in the sun on the fields for long hours, so he naturally developed a deep tan.
It was never meant to be a racial thing to start with but I don't think I successfully made that point clear in my portrayal of him.
I do think Jonathan's personality is alot more aligned to the way I imagine him. He's alot more aggressive than Edward, sure. But while I do like to portray Ed in a generally more submissive tone than compared to Jonathan. Edward himself isn't a submissive person.
The art you're referring to I was going more for the idea that Edward is a manipulator, and while he looks like the submissive one between the too, his position and eye level being higher than Jonathan and his more confident expressions is meant to suggest things aren't that simple between the two.
That aside. I have thought of changing Jonathan's design before 🤔 though if I return him back to his original white person state I'm sure I'm still gonna get criticism for, you know, changing one of the few colored characters I have. (A dilemma)
I'm personally attached to his design at this point. Even when it's not that good and has the forementioned problems.

There's also something else about the idea that people with darker skin tones aren't allowed to appear more aggressive (which I get to some extent with the history and all)
Let's not forget that both Edward and Jonathan are criminals 🤔 so they both are just as okay with being aggressive. And the more I talk about this the more I realize how this argument is kinda stupid.
These topics are always brought up about characters of color like if I draw a person with darker skin they always have to be overanalyzed and it just can't be taken for face value that this person's personality and skin color are two unrelated things that don't have to be because or in spite of eachother 🤷🏻♀️
I'm not the most educated person on this topic, that I do realize. Maybe a person of color would see this and disagree with me, I also do realize there's an importance to the way these topics are represented. But based on the few pieces of art I do of these characters I bet you can't really get the full experience of one character.
Right now your ask came from your opinion on this one piece of art I did of them, even tho I have different artworks of them in different interactions. But you saw issue in this specific one 🤔 even tho I believe in judging a character as a whole and not through one specific lense.
Either way. I hope this answered some of your questions or gave you a different understanding or perspective.

And so. In conclusion I would like to hear thoughts about this and how I should approach his design moving forward (or if I even need to change him at all)
And if anyone else has an opinion on this matter I would like to hear it (keep the criticism constructive and discussions friendly)
