THE DOG IS SO CUTEEE
Day 103, Lyric 1:
"Wish I could stay here, Can't deny I like the rush, Wish I could lay here, But I'm afraid I'll take too much, And overdose, Too much of you and you never know, Got my lips blue, eyes closed mmmm,"
Good Thing - Suriel Hess
[Praise is always a good thing, especially in a crisis.]
Leon Bridges - Good Thing
One of my favorite debut albums of all time is Leon Bridges’ 2015 debut, Coming Home. It turned ten last year, and it’s a cool milestone for an album, especially when the album is a masterclass in emulating 60s soul music à la Sam Cooke or Otis Redding. The issue, albeit a small one for me, is that the album only emulated that sound and didn’t do anything new or unique, but it was a homage to a bygone era. I still love the album, because it feels like a lost album from that era. I’ll admit that I don’t go back to it as much as I want to, but it came out ten years later, and I’ve always got new music to sink my teeth into.
With that said, I’ve got one more Leon Bridges album that I haven’t heard, which is 2018’s Good Thing. I remember when it came out a few years later, but I never bothered, only because I heard that the album went into a more contemporary direction. I finally picked it up, after all these years of ignoring it, and that’s kind of true that it goes into a more modern sound. Not totally, though, but it leans more into the 70s this time around, whether it’s R&B, soul, or even some disco. The issue is that, like the debut, he doesn’t really add anything new or unique to the table.
I would argue that changes with his third album, 2021’s Gold Diggers Sound, but this album feels like a step in the same direction (or no steps at all, just mining sounds from a different decade). The saving grace of this album is Bridges’ voice is amazing; his voice has gotten even better here, and even if the songs aren’t anything amazing, his voice is still stellar. This album is also super short, only around a half hour, so it’s not very long. It doesn’t take its time, but the album feels like another pastiche. I like it, as I like 70s soul, disco, and R&B, but it feels too familiar. I’d ultimately recommend this if you enjoy R&B, because it has some catchy songs, and Bridges’ voice is awesome.
that’s a good thing
Are ... old cryptocurrencies slowly dying out? That’s a good thing - it makes room for new, better cryptocurrencies.
Day 4 of listing something good from 2026. Bittersweet sort of. I drove Salimata back to her place so that she could pack up quietly. She might be leaving tomorrow, but she was feeling better. She asked me to wait a little and ran back to bring me home made bissap juice.
